in hindsight, mark wished he didn't play the waiting game.

he was dialing 119 faster than he had fallen for donghyuck.

they had been talking when the, now ominous, deep voice from a man he's never seen before yelled for the younger.

he gave mark a pained look before he stepped out of his bedroom.

mark heard glass breaking and watched donghyuck's bedroom door be slammed shut by a hand covered in rings.

he wished the police were faster.

mark waited tensely outside; his parents comforting him and telling him everything would be okay.

donghyuck deserved parents like his.

"mom? will they— will they take hyuck away?"

"if... if living conditions at home aren't good... then yes."

his breath caught in his throat, "no, i don't want him taken away, mom. i want him here... with me."

his mother looked at him with understanding, "you really care about him, don't you?"

"i love him," he confessed, "i just want him safe."

his mother pressed a kiss against his cheek, "i'll see what i can do."

the police arrived.
