"Hey, Jimin!" You waved at the camera, seeing Jimin wave back on your laptop. "Do you want me to pick you up at the airport?"

Jimin nodded, running a hand through his dyed grey hair. "Are you sure? I could get an Uber."

"No, no, I'm sure. I wanna be there when we finally meet." You gazed back at Jimin, a wide smile on your face. After two years of being online best friends, and only seeing each other through video calls, you could finally see him. You both had saved up enough money to share an apartment together, knowing that you weren't soulmates since you had made eye contact plenty of times over FaceTimes. This would be your last video call before finally meeting each other in person.

He smiled back, his eyes transforming into small crescents. "Thank you," he responded. "I'm glad we can finally move in!"

You clapped your hands together. "Finally, after so long."

Jimin nodded, giving you a small heart with his hands before waving again. "I've got to get ready now."

     "Alrighty, I'll see you soon."

You paced around your car, waiting for the boy. A rush of anxiety and excitement ran through you, creating butterflies in your stomach.

     "Hey, Y/N!" Jimin's voice.

Without looking up, you answered with, "Hi, Jimin!" You instinctively wrapped him in a hug, eyes still shut. Pulling away, you stared into his eyes, freezing. His eyes turned an ambient pink, glowing for a second before fading. Every feeling instantly morphed into fear, the anxiety pounding harder than before. Your best friend was your soulmate? No, you didn't want this. You didn't want any of this. You didn't even want to meet your new soulmate ever.

Jimin stared back, his eyes wide. "Oh my God.." He hugged you again, making you stiffen. "I-I'm sorry."

You gazed at his hair, every feeling, every sensation fading into nothing. You felt.. empty. You couldn't think. You couldn't see. It was just darkness for a second before the anxiety returned, leaving you breathless. "No. We've made eye contact multiple times before on video calls. It's not possible."

He pulled away, letting out a huff. "I mean, but we were seeing each other digitally. It makes sense if the first time we meet our eyes turn pink."

"I-I don't wanna believe it." You responded, looking down as memories flooded your mind. You remembered him. The old one. You remembered his death and how you were unable to say goodbye. How you didn't tell him you loved him before it was too late. How he said he hated you. One fight that wasn't resolved.

Jimin bit his lip. "Then don't."

You sank into his arms, sobbing. "Please..no..."

He pet your head, running his hands through your hair. "Let's go home?"

You nodded, wiping the tears off your face. What if Jimin left? What if he argued with you, only for it not to be fixed? Why did the universe do this to you, right when your life was pleasant? You thought that you had moved past the incident since it had been seven years since your former soulmate died. But you guessed not.

"We're home!" He gently clutched your hand, presenting the door to your new apartment. "Do you wanna open it?"

You looked up, your insides turning as you attempted to erase every terrible memory from your mind. "You can do it."

"Come on, you always wanted to open it! Just do it," he responded, glaring at you playfully.

"Alright, alright." You opened the door, looking inside the newly furnished home. "Wow, it looks cool."

Jimin smiled, walking you inside. "I know, right? I'm glad I moved down here." He glanced at you, sending you another warm grin that sent your heart racing. Wait, what?

"Yeah. Me too." You returned the smile, pointing at the kitchen. "I honestly don't know how to cook. At all."

"I know how to cook, but you know that already," Jimin replied. You remembered his late-night meals of Nutella sandwiches with sliced bananas, and how he showed you how to make them once.

"Nutella sandwiches and bananas... are we going to be eating that for a week straight?"

     He shrugged. "Up to you."

You looked around. "This is nice. I'm glad we picked this place."

     "Me too."

You gnawed on your lower lip, looking up to see him staring down at you. His eyes were a chocolate-brown, but for a second, you could remember that alluring pink color. You stared deep into his eyes, seeing your old soulmate, seeing Jimin now, and those pink eyes that had you so infatuated. They were like Cupid's arrow, sucking you in as soon as you saw them and leaving a powerful mark when it was gone. You shook yourself out of it, looking down with your cheeks red.

"Hah, am I that pretty?" he asked jokingly, nudging you on the shoulder. You kept your gaze down, hiding your flustered state. "I'm joking, joking. Come on, let's go to your room."

You hesitated. "Why do we have to be soulmates? Of all people?"

He glanced down at you, his orbs dotted with surprise. "I don't know. Destiny? There's no real answer. We just... are."

"Why though? Did you lose your former soulmate?" you questioned, facing him.

His breath hitched. "I- yeah. Years ago, though."

You nodded, your heart and throat aching from sorrow. "Me too."

There was a long pause. "Then that's why." You didn't speak as he locked hands with you again, bringing you to your room. "I know you decorated this already, but here's your new room!"

"Wow," you responded, pretending to be surprised. "I've totally never seen this before."

     He chuckled. "It's pretty."

     I nodded. "Yeah, it is."

Jimin ran another hand through his hair. "Wanna see my room?" he asked.

You laughed when he turned red, realizing what he had said. "Sure." You followed him inside, looking around. It looked cozy, with a pearl-white bed and small plushies, along with a desk. "Wow, this is so pretty."

"Yeah. My friend furnished it for me." He placed his hands on his hips, turning to face you again. "Soulmates or not, are we still friends?"

     You paused. "Sure."

Jimin wrapped you in a small hug when you responded. "I'm scared to fall in love again," he murmured, placing his head on your shoulder. "Are you?"

Nodding, you swallowed down any feelings that were sprouting inside of you. "I don't want to fall again."

"You're not even gonna try?" he questioned.

You shook your head in reply. "No."

Jimin pulled away to face you, his gaze soft with understanding. "Maybe we can be soulmates as friends then."

"What does that mean?" You asked, staring up at him.

The boy shrugged. "You know how two friends that hang out a lot are considered 'soulmates'? Maybe it's like that."

      "Is that how it works?"

"I don't know. Maybe we can check in a book or something."

You tilted your head. "They have books for soulmates?"

"Why wouldn't they? It's a big part of people's lives." He ran a hand through his hair.

"Let's go to a library tomorrow?"

Shrugging, you answered with, "Why not?"
