Sarah's POV

I admired the brown haired curly headed boy with a smiley grin next door as he was skating with his two friends on our street. "Are you ever going to talk to him or are you just going to stare at him?" my best friend Finn jokes. "Whatever, I don't even know him, just show me what you're going to wear tomorrow," I continued as I rolled my eyes.

"I don't know why it matters, we already know everyone in our town so I really doubt that there's going to be new people to impress," he replied seriously. I rolled my eyes, "Okay, whatever can we go now?"

We went downstairs and I got onto my pink bike while Finn got onto his skateboard. We rode to the nearby lake which was only a few minutes away from our houses during the glistening pink and orange sunset, to enjoy the last day of summer together.

Finn and I have been bestfriends since I moved here, to a small town in Michigan. A boy with brown curls walked up to me on the school bus and looked at me with his big brown eyes asking if I needed someone to sit with. That was 7 years ago, we're 15 now. We have been through so much together, it's always been Sarah and Finn, Finn and Sarah, we don't really have any other friends except for each other. That's all we really need.

Tomorrow is going to be our first day of sophomore year, usually the time where people branch out and discover themselves. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried, sometimes I wonder why Finn only hangs out with me considering the fact that he is a pretty outgoing person that plays sports and just isn't bad looking, I'm not going to lie. Before I moved here, he was friends with everyone. I guess sometimes I just think that I'm holding Finn back.

"You good?" Finn asked. "Yeah, just taking in this view before we go back to school," I said. Finn always says that I can tell him anything but every time I have thoughts like these, I don't want him to think I'm clingy or anything.

We watched as the sun shines on the water, making it sparkle. We take out the snacks that we brought and enjoyed them as we talked and joked around. "Oh my gosh! I haven't had fruit rolls in so long," Finn screams out. "I brought them just for you. Remember when you would eat a whole box in a day?" I asked while I laughed.

"Yeah, and then my mom caught me and made me stop eating them," Finn remembered

"Yeah, and then my mom caught me and made me stop eating them," Finn remembered. "The good old days," I said while my smile slowly starts fading. The calm before the storm.

the next day

I wake up at 5 am and it's still pitch black outside. High school is going to suck. I got ready and threw on my backpack. I told my parents to have a good day and I went over to Finn's house. We have been walking to school together for years, it's basically tradition now. I rang on the doorbell and Finn's mom, Ms. Wolfhard, opened the door for me. She's basically my second mom, she would take care of me whenever my parents were out of town on business trips.

"Hi Ms. Wolfhard!" I excitedly said. "Hey! How are you? Finn is still eating breakfast," she explained. "I'm doing great! You know sophomore year, very exciting," I cheered.

"Alright, Mom, see you after school, I love you," Finn interrupted. "I love you too, have a great day at school guys!" Ms. Wolfhard exclaimed.

Finn and I walked to school, it's only a ten minute walk. We always love our walks because we can catch up if we haven't seen each other that much the day before. But I can't help but think if this could possibly change. I mean it's reasonable for people to change, especially in high school. But I just put those thoughts at the back of my head.

I went into my first class which was english. The teacher seemed really cool. But I can't say the same for the people in my class. Ellie Phillips, the queen bee of our grade. Super rude, mean, disgusting, and overall just nasty. You would think that I'm exaggerating but I'm not. I remember when she pushed me into mud in middle school, it took hours to wash the mud out of my hair.

I was hoping that someone I liked walked into the room and sat next to me. If not, I wouldn't mind sitting by myself. The warning bell rang and I still haven't seen anyone that I liked walk into the room. I put my head down and hoped that this class would go by quick.

Until someone tapped on my shoulder. I looked up and I couldn't believe who I saw. My new neighbor that was skating yesterday. "Hey, can I sit here? I don't really know anyone," the mystery boy asked. "Yeah, for sure, go ahead!" I replied. "I'm Joshua, nice to meet you!" he excitedly said. "I'm Sarah!" I cheerfully responded. Is this really happening right now?
