After many minutes of awkward silence, our teacher, Mr. Ball yelled out, "All right guys, SO we are going to be playing some icebreakers! Your partner will be whoever you're sitting next to. So uh just jump right into it, ask each other questions and what not!"
We look at each other awkwardly for a couple seconds until Joshua clears his throat and says something. "So, uh what's your favorite color?"
Wow I just remembered how much I hate small talk. "Um, blue," I answered with an awkward giggle. I wanted to just skip the small talk and really get to know him, "You said you didn't know anyone here so I'm guessing you just moved here?" I asked curiously as if I didn't know that he was my new neighbor.
"Yeah actually, I moved here like two weeks ago from Texas. New job offer for my mom and stuff," Josh answered with a slight smile.
"Oh my gosh! Which part? I was born in Texas before I moved here 7 years ago," I excitedly asked as I saw a smile grow on his face
"Austin, born and raised. What about you?"
I let out a little squeal as I answered, "Dallas! Wow I have a feeling we're going to great friends. You know you can sit with me and my friend at lunch if you want."
Joshua let out a little sigh and smiled, "Oh thank you, I was getting a little anxious about that."

We continued getting to know each other before our teacher told us to stop and put us to work on an assignment. On the first day of school... really?
Finn's POV
Could this class go by any slower? All I really look forward to at school is lunch and practice. The one time I can talk to Sarah during school is at lunch since we rarely have classes together. I really want to ask her why she has been acting a little weird lately. Geez, just ten more minutes.
- bell rings for lunch, 11:05 am
I go over to the lunch table where Sarah and I sat last year, and got out my lunch. Pizza lunchables, apples, gushers, and water. Perfect. I was wondering why she was taking longer than usual to get to lunch but I just assumed that she got lost.
Until I saw her... with the guy from yesterday
No, it's not like I'm jealous or anything. I mean when I asked her if she was going to talk to him, I didn't really think she was going to.
"Hey! Um this is Joshua, he's new so he's going to sit with us now. Joshua, Finn. Finn, Joshua," Sarah said as she kept on pointing her eyes towards him to try and signal that he's her new hot neighbor. I mean I really don't see what she sees in him but whatever I guess.
"Oh right, isn't he the guy from—
"ALRIGHT, so you two should definitely get to know each other. New year, new friends," Sarah interrupted as she looked at me with a fake smile.
Sarah went into the lunch line which left Joshua and I alone. "So how long have y'all known each other?" Joshua asked as an attempt to break the silence. "Seven years," I responded back with a dry tone. "Oh that's cool, have y'all ever like... liked each other or anything?" he questioned.
I glared at him with confusion. "Um, n-no. Why?" That caught me off guard a bit. Everyone always asks that question. Including our parents. They always joke around and ask when we're going to make it official. Sarah would always be annoyed by it, but I just stayed quiet. I don't know... a little part of me just thought that it might happen some day.
Before he could get a word out of his mouth, Sarah came back.
Sarah looked annoyed as she approached, "Guess what I just heard!"
"What?" Joshua and I said in sync. "Ellie Phillips was just talking about her little crush on the one and only, Finn Wolfhard," Sarah blurted out looking at me right in my eyes.
"Seriously?"
"You've had a crush on her for the longest time and now I guess she feels the same way, so what are going to do?" she said with a little sass in her voice.
Joshua spoke up, "Wait who is Ellie Phillips?"
Sarah looked at me to explain to him. "Um basically, she's the queen bee of our grade. Her and Sarah aren't necessarily on good terms," I answered and he nodded.
Sarah rolled her eyes, "Yeah and she's not exactly the best person but whatever. For some reason Finn likes her. Whatever makes him happy I guess."
Joshua had a look of confusion on his face. We both could tell she was being a bit petty. "Anyways, I have to go to the library for... stuff. See y'all later" Sarah walked off and left Joshua and I puzzled.
"What was that about?"
I sighed, "I have no idea."

I really don't know. Beginnings are hard to write but once the beginning is solid, it'll be better and I'll start adding in the drama :)
