It was a cloudy and rainy day, just my type of day. I was sitting on my couch reading an old book my mom used to read all the time, she ended up giving it to me five years ago when I moved back to Italy, along with some of her clothes and a bunch of gems and stones that were supposed to bring calm into my life.
The book was a play. I was reading it out loud pretending to be in character until I started laughing at myself and why wouldn't I? I was home alone, quarantined, playing different characters at the same time and all I had to do was change my voice while doing so.
Quarantined. Right, Covid-19 is a very dangerous virus attacking the whole world, and we all need to self-isolate and stay home like the responsible human beings we are since many people are dying from it, so governments had to take several measures to keep us safe. So, all I needed to do was read, home work out, work with my computer, possibly study and social distancing, which, wasn't hard at all.
It was time for me to FaceTime my best friend and tell her about my day, my boring day, and for her to tell me about hers. Social distancing seemed to work pretty fine for us since we were 7,000 miles away from each other, she lived in Buenos Aires, while I was stuck in London. I moved here before the lockdown and found myself in a very difficult position when I decided not to go back to Italy to self isolate with my family like all of my room-mates did. Bunch of crazy Italian people who always cooked pasta for dinner, very stereotypical.
When you're home alone, depression might hit in, but also, you understand the meaning of growing up and taking care of yourself like you never did before. Maybe, being on my own meant I had to make amends with my past and try to really look in the mirror and accept who I am now, stop looking back, and build a stronger future. I had to work on my life.
She instantly picked up. We talked about what we were gonna cook for dinner and actually eat together on a video call. We settled for codfish with some rice, hence we were following a very strict diet, which...I hated.
