Silence bled through the darkness- overwhelming me with its intensity. Warmth spread through my ankles, warm and sticky. I froze, glancing down. I could barely make out a liquid in the dim light- eyes narrowing in an attempt to figure out what it was. I crouched, reaching down-
My world spun as a wave crashed into me- filling my mouth with that warm- coppery taste.
I'd been in enough fights to place the taste instantly.
Blood.
I was drowning in blood.
Faintly, a voice reached my ears.
But I was too far gone- too far drowning-
Choking on that blood-
Lungs screaming for any bit of air they could grab-
My eyes flew open with a tight breath, a face coming into focus.
His brow was drawn, lips pinched. I stared at him for a long moment, unable to recognize him, as half my mind was still lost in the dream world. Thin features, to a point where they were almost delicate, almost feminine. Thin brows creased in worry as he searched my gaze, eyes cast a pale lavender in the dim light.
My gaze slid off of him, to my arm. Long green tendrils wrapped around my forearm, holding me down.
I blinked, returning my gaze to the strange man straddling my waist.
"You were thrashing," he said apologetically, sliding off of me. Those tendrils sank away, fading. I closed my eyes, sucking in a deep breath.
"Sorry," I said gruffly. He brushed back his bangs, watching me a soft gaze.
"Don't worry about it. I'm just glad I woke you up before you broke the bed." I glanced down, feeling a faint blush heat my ears.
"Anyways," he said, glancing out the window, "it's almost time to get going."
I sat up, pulling on my jacket from the chair. Kakyoin was silent for a long beat, lost in thought. I tugged on my hat, shielding my eyes as I watched him. His slim figure was cast in sharp outline against the sunlight streaming in through the window, the cut of his shoulders, the curve of his hips.
I bit my lip, glancing away.
He turned back to me at that moment, and I felt a quiet blush sting my ears. Thankfully, he didn't seem to notice, brushing a hand over his hair.
A knock sounded on the door, and he moved to get it. I stood, shoving my hands into my pockets.
"Good Morning," Joseph said as he glanced between us. "We're going to get moving now."
...
Twenty minutes later I was stuffed in the back of the car, shoulder pressed tightly to Kakyoin's. He didn't seem to mind, gaze focused on the landscape as it sped by.
"Was that the only time you woke up?" a soft voice asked from beside me. I glanced over. He'd turned, watching me. Advol glanced in the mirror, though ignored us in favor for telling off Polnareff as he tried to annoy Iggy.
"No," I admitted bluntly. Kakyoin watched me for a few beats, head tipping to one side. That curl of hair tipped with him, swaying lightly in the breeze from the open window. I didn't say anything else, hoping he would end the conversation there.
He didn't need to know about my nightmares.
"You're going to need sleep," he pushed lightly. "Is there something I can do-"
"Sleeping with you helps," I bit out.
"I-oh," he said, blinking at me. A faint blush rose up along his cheekbones, and he glanced away. When I glanced up at the front, Joseph was watching me with a knowing smirk. I tugged my hat lower, glancing back out my window as the tips of my ears heated.
Thankfully, the enemy didn't try to delay us that day. A break. One we all needed. Tensions had risen between us- and having to share rooms didn't help either. I blew out a breath as Kakyoin volunteered us to share.
Not that I minded, but I was hoping to get some time alone.
I moved to sit on the bed- the only bed- as he closed the door.
I glanced at the watch. It was still early enough that the others could come banging on our door demanding a game. I hoped to god that they didn't try anything tonight. Kakyoin yawned, kicking off his shoes before falling down next to me.
"Do you want to watch something?" he asked, already reaching for the remote. I didn't reply, knowing it was pointless. I eased back onto the pillows, stretching my legs in front of me. Kakyoin sat next to me, the bed small enough that he was forced to lean against my shoulder if he wanted to stay on it. I didn't mind, watching as he flipped through the meager amount of channels to find something.
A half hour into the show, he fell asleep against me, soft hair tickling my neck. I sighed softly, turning off the tv and easing him down. He murmured softly, though I just wrapped my arms around him, knowing any other position would lead to one of us falling off the side. I blew out a quiet breath, though winced to myself as a shiver ran through the smaller male.
I tucked my face into the back of his neck, sleep finding me quickly.
I didn't have any nightmares that night.
