They fully accepted him whenever he told them it was a guy; they knew that gender did not matter when their souls were made for each other.
They told him, when he was 18 and a half, that they didn't pursue their soulmates because his mother and father were madly in love with each other, although they weren't technically "perfect" for each other.
They didn't care, and they seemed to have paid the price for it, never being truly happy with the other.
