Broken Hearts

Beep Beep Beep. Ugh. I shake my head trying to wake up for the morning. As my eyes open, the darkness starts to fade.
Then I see my best friend and neighbor, Janis Teal, standing in the hallway. Her long black hair laid against her back. "Wakey wakey eggs and bakey," she says as she walks toward my bed with a plate of eggs and cinnamon rolls.
I laugh realizing that half the plate has been eaten. "Whats so funny?" Janis says, holding back a burp.
"Haha. Never mind silly willy," I say.
As I eat she walks toward the closet. Then she pulls out a dark navy blue sweater and ripped blue skinny jeans. "Perfect for your First day of High School, huh?" She says.
I nod. After I'm finished eating, I jump up about of bed and put on the beautiful clothes Janis picked out for me. As I step toward the full body mirror, Janis' brown eyes widen as she looks me up and down. She gets up and starts playing with my hair.
"You look beautiful." She says breathlessly. Is she really saying that me, Madison Holt, i-is beautiful? The blue eyed, blonde haired freak who's obsessed with alternative bands? I've always thought of myself as ugly and worthless, but she always seems does something that lifts me up. Whatever.
"Ha. Thanks?" I look myself up and down. I hate my body. I want to look graceful like those superstars I see on TV, but at least I look halfway like Avril Lavigne.
"Come on skater girl. Lets get this show on the road," Janis says as she finishes putting her makeup up. Ugh, makeup. I've never quite liked it, but my mom loved it. I always watched her put on her lipstick when i was little. She seemed like an angel.. Too bad now she is one. I remember that day. My family was driving peacefully in the car to our grandparents house, until a drunk driver came along taking my moms life and damaging my dads brain. I remember waking up and the car was upside down and this beautiful man was on the phone across from the accident. I tried to unbuckle my car seat several times and eventually I was successful. Then I plopped down and crawled out, not noticing the dried blood on the broken glass pieces. Next thing I know, I was in the hospital room with these tubes hooked on to me. I surrounded by everyone I loved except Mom. That beautiful man was there too, but this time I was the only one who could see him. He had dark brown hair and these black wings. I probably imagined it because I took a ton of pain pills, but I don't know anymore. "Earth to Maddie! Have the aliens taken your brain yet?" Janis says.I jerk back realizing I've been thinking for a couple of minutes. "Are you okay?" she giggles then I nod. "Come on lets get in the car."
