The sun set, and I was in my room on my phone. Manny was jumping behind my bed, grabbing my hair.

"Manny, please stop pulling my hair." I groaned.

"Jump! Jump!" He exclaimed, completely ignoring what I had to say.

I sighed and sat up away from him.

"Can we play?" He asked, running out from behind my bed to face me.

"What do you wanna play?" I put his little hands in mine.

There was a knock on the door and without waiting for an answer, the door opened.

"Hey." Rodrick said, leaning against the door frame.

"You could've waited till I answered." I replied.

I pulled Manny into my lap as Rodrick sat next to me,

"What do you want?"

"I'm bored, new girl." He snarkily replied.

"Go do drugs then."

A smirk formed on his face,

"I was thinking we could hang out."

"I'm not going to listen to your music, Heffley." I said. His grin faded into a frown.

"I just wanna get to know the new girl, that's all." He puffed his lip out into a dramatic pout.

I rolled my eyes as my stupid nickname left his lips.

"Ask away."

"Just a second." He grabbed Manny from my lap, holding him against his shoulder. Manny tried to escape his grasp and he walked to the door, opening it. He set Manny down outside of the room and shut the door.

"What was that for?" My brows furrowed.

"He's annoying." Rodrick shrugged, sitting down next to me.

"Rude." I mumbled as he scooted closer.

"So. What's the deal with you staying with us?" He questioned.

"My mom's going on a trip." I simply replied.

"And she doesn't trust you by yourself?" He arched a brow.

I sighed, shrugging my shoulders.

"Guess not."

"My mom doesn't really trust me home alone, either. But she still lets me stay home alone." He explained, his gaze fixated on his black shoes.

"What'd you do to lose her trust? Snort coke in the bathroom?" I teased. He put a hand to his chest, glaring at me.

"Why do you think I do drugs?"

"I don't know. Do you?"

He looked up at me, a smile on his face.

"Only at parties." He paused, "Speaking of parties, that's really what I wanted to talk to you about. Can't say that shit in front of Manny, he'll tell Susan."

"Okay, what about parties?" I asked.

"My bandmate is throwing a party tonight. I want you to go with me." He stated, pulling his phone out of his pocket to show me the invitation text.

"I've been to a few parties." I glared, "And I've hated each and every single one. It's just a bunch of alcoholic teens that smell like axe or puke."

Rodrick chucked, shaking his head,

"You'll like this party!"

"No."

"Please sneak out with me tonight. I promise I won't ask you for anything else ever again!" He begged.

"If your mom finds out-"

"She's not. I've snuck out a dozen times." He reassured me.

I sighed. I guess it was better than spending the night with Manny.

"Okay. What am I supposed to tell Manny?" I asked.

"Tell him we're having a sleepover." He replied, getting off the bed and to his feet. "Meet me in my room in an hour." He pointed to me as he headed to the door, "We're going to party like rockstars."
