Morgan
I didn't tell anyone.
I couldn't. I was so afraid that my mum would isolate me from her and my sister. We barely spoke since that day, and I refused to be in the same room as Drake. I wouldn't look at him, because if I met his eyes I knew I would lunge at him. I spent most of my time away, either with Danny, or training outside the Pack House. This was good for me as I could get my mind away from what was happening at home, while becoming strong and fast.
Luna Ivy knew about the change in my mum, and she and Alpha Jak had offered me a small house just inside the town to stay in whenever things got too hard for me. I Think they had some sway with the council of the area, and I never got bothered even though I was underage and living alone. I loved that place, and it was more of a home than with my mum.
Then my sister was born. Ella. The name means 'light' and she was the light of my life from the moment she was born. I adored her. I wanted to spend all my time with her, but Ria tried to distance us. I don't know what poison Drake had fed her, but she was a new person. I didn't even call her 'mum' anymore. However, I refused to be separated from Ella, and she reluctantly allowed me to spend Sundays with her, if I moved out and stayed away for the rest of the week.
I agreed, if only for Ella's sake, and Sundays quickly became my favourite day of the week. I permanently lived in my little house, and Ella and I would stay there and play games of watch TV together, or go to the town park and spend time on the green, with Danny often joining us.
17 Years Old
I woke, opening my bleary eyes and rolling over with a groan, reaching around for my phone balanced on the table beside my bed. I checked the time: 8:48, Sunday 15th November.
Sunday? Shit! I'd overslept and I had to pick up Ella.
Showering and dressing in record time, I rushed out of my home, snatching a bagel on the way out. I soon reached the red door of Ria's house. I knocked with the back of my wrist, my hand still clutching my breakfast.
I waited. Nobody came to the door. I knocked again, but there was nothing.
Impatiently, I went to the window. It was my day with Ella, and we were going to meet Danny at the lake He was probably already waiting. I could hear shuffling from inside, so someone was about. Why didn't they open the door?
Bored with waiting, I decided to mindlink Ria. I'm here to pick up Ella. Nothing. Suddenly I heard a crash from inside followed by a muffled 'Shit!'
I'd had enough. Marching to the door, I tried the handle. Unlocked. I stepped inside and looked around warily.
'Ella? You here hun?' I stepped through the living room and into the kitchen.
I caught my breath, my hand going to my mouth in shock.
There on the ground, lay Ria. Her face... her face was covered in bruises. Her eyes were closed, and she was completely still. Gasping, I lunged forwards, checking her breathing.
'Ria? Ria! Come on, wake up! Mum, please!'
Nothing.
She had no pulse.
I stood on shaky legs. This wasn't real. This was a dream... a nightmare. That's all. I felt cold tears drip down my cheeks, but I didn't remember starting crying. I was silent: I didn't know what to do. I couldn't do anything.
Then I heard a wail from behind me. That broke the spell I was under and I twisted around.
Drake stood behind me, holding a struggling Ella. She was crying and kicking, but he held her firmly.
