Morgan

We'd woken in a hospital in a small city outside of Silver Moon - or Blue Shadow as it was now - territory. Danny's leg was treated, and Ella and I were given a bed and food. However, his leg wasn't the biggest injury to Danny. He wouldn't look at me in the eyes for days, and hardly spoke. I knew he was hurting so badly, and I couldn't do anything. I'd done my fair share of crying when nobody was around. Our home was gone. Completely overrun by Blue Shadow mongrels.

Alice was dead, and Danny hated himself for it. Even though he had saved my life, and she had been a traitor, he loved her. He had lost her, his parents and his entire pack in the same day.

After we were discharged, we took the next train leaving, not really caring where it was going. We both knew, without having to voice it aloud, that we were going to begin a new life, far away from our past, and far away from werewolves.

It took time to heal, especially for Danny. I was there for him through long, painful periods of depression, but he managed to come out the other side, and leave the past where it should be.

A year passed, and we moved from town to town, never really settling anywhere. We liked it that way, and Ella was happy, always ready to explore new places.

Present Day

I blinked, my thoughts returning to reality. There was a reason we decided to leave our past buried, and I couldn't go backwards now, not after all the progress we'd made. The bus still shambled along, the night beginning to retreat as a blue glow rose on the horizon.

I glanced to my right. Ella was curled in her seat, fast asleep, her head resting on Danny's shoulder. He was in the seat next to the aisle, dozing as well.

A faint smile played across my lips. This was my family now.

A pothole caused the bus to jump, and I turned my attention back to outside. Dawn was fully breaking now, an orange glow shattering the blanket of darkness the city had been enveloped in. I wasn't even sure where we were. After travelling for so long, cities just blurred together. I wasn't sure when we would settle down for good, but I think we were looking for somewhere unclaimed by a werewolf pack, where we could live in peace.

Ella was nearly five now, and needed a school, with some consistency, and some friends to grow up with. I was nineteen, Danny twenty, and we were sure to be able to find jobs and a small house if we tried to. We didn't need much.

Suddenly, I heard shouts close to the road. We were approaching a sports centre located next to the road, and people were already playing basketball on the courts outside.

At this time of the morning? Crazy.

A smell reached me - sea salt and the scent of a fresh coastal breeze. I frowned. How was that possible? I might not be entirely sure where we were, but I knew we were nowhere near the sea.

It grew stronger, taking over my senses. I loved the sea. My mum used to take me there as I child, and I would refuse to leave. I never knew why I was drawn to it so much.

Stop! No memories. The past is gone.

My eyes searched outside for the source of the smell, but I could only see a group of men playing basketball. The bus slowed as we encountered a red light, so I could survey the surroundings better.

The team practising was good, working together to score hoop after hoop, but there was one person who didn't seem to fit. He was tall, built like a good player, but was staring around him like he wasn't even focused on the game. I chuckled under my breath. They needed to get him off the team. He was letting the side down.
