Chapter Fifteen

I write first, to the media.

How dare you try to box me in. Park Predator? How offensive. I can kill anywhere I want. And place I want and any time. Sky's the limit. You think you know me. Your little nation-wide fascination with violent killers. Oh, if only the citizens knew just how bad the monsters your police cannot catch. The ones lurking under your children's beds as you read this.

I will prove to you I am much more than The Park Predator. Your grandchildren will know my story.

I write now to Dear Special Agent Alec Walker.

I love killing. At first it was just practice for Her. But now I really do enjoy it. You know Agent Walker, this is the first time you surprised me. I suppose everyone prefers Her over me. Eventually I will kill Her, but she'll come to me.

I can assure you of that Agent Walker. She will choose me. Over you. And there will be nothing you can do about it.

Just like there's nothing you can do for the dozens already dead. Should have dropped the case when it was only 12 girls Walker, because you're going to get to add so many more lives to your conscience. Starting Now. The game is on Agent Walker. You cannot protect Her.

I do have a question for you, Agent Walker.

Have you ever had a woman beg for it, Agent Walker? Beg you to kill her?

Nothing like it, I assure you. Let me know if you ever need any tips for the best sex of your life.

Best of luck Agent Walker. You are going to need it.

Hannah, who had read the letter over Walker's shoulder, waited for him to place it down silently before speaking.

"There has been no evidence of sexual assault on any of the remains with enough tissue left to tell. DNA swabs of victim mouths came back clean," she murmured.

"What?" Walker asked snapping out of his thoughts.

"He's claiming the killing began as practical but became sexually driven, but there's no evidence of that."

"So, this might be a poser?" Walker said turning to face her, relief leaking in to his question.

That was the first time Hannah ever looked at Walker with pity in her eyes.

"No, it's definitely him. He's upset the media has categorized him in a way he doesn't like. It fits the profile I've created. Once Nora gets here we'll hold a press conference as soon as possible. But Walker..." Hannah trailed off.

Walker sighed and turned back to stare at the letter. "What is it?"

The defeat in his voice broke Hannah's heart.

"Something you've done since we got to Kingston has pissed him off enough to include you in that letter. I don't know what, but just investigating the case isn't enough for him to show us so much of his hand like this. It seems like he wants us investigating, so what you did to piss him off this much..." She trailed off.

"So, we just have to figure out which shitty thing I did to which shitty person and there's our guy?" Walker's sarcasm pulled all warmth from the June air.

"I am sorry Alec," Hannah whispered. Walker jerked at the sound of his first name on her lips. She hadn't used his first name before, at least, not around him. He turned to find her already gone from the room.

Who the hell was this guy?
