"Look over there. You see that?" Kordell followed his uncle's instructions and looked over at the huge billboard with Kobe Bryant smiling back at him. He nodded. "That's gon' be you up there one day. You're gonna be somebody, I know it." Kordell looked up at his uncle and cheesed.
"You think so, Unc'?" He asked. Eleven year old Kordell and Louis were sitting in Louis' mahogany Cadillac, waiting for Renee to come out of the Supermarket. It was a sunny day in Mid July. The AC was cranked up and Kordell was occupied with an Icee.
"Hell yeah. You're going to be the next big thing in Brooklyn. Everybody gonna know you, they gon' wanna know you. They gon' call you Dell." Louis chuckled at the little nickname he gave Kordell. Renee usually called him Kori, but Dell sounded way better to him. It sounded cooler.
"Dell? Like the computer?" Kordell reiterated. Louis chuckled. "Yea, Dell. I like that." Kordell thought about it for a moment. "Dell. It's a little corny, but better than Kori." Kordell said with a laugh. "Don't tell your mom that." Louis joked...
"KORDELL?!" Renee stared at her son with sternness. If looks could kill, he'd be a dead man.
"Y-yea? Sorry Ma." Kordell came back to reality, noticing his mother standing in front of him with her arms folded. "I've been calling you for five minutes. You know Nikita is coming over today! I need help setting up the table!" Renee shouted. "Sorry, I'm coming right now." Kordell stood up from his gaming chair and headed downstairs to set up the table while Renee finished preparing the food.
"Did you put down the plate mats? The silver ones, not the gold ones?" Renee asked him. "Yes." He replied. "Good. Now go get ready for dinner. She should be here any minute." Renee said in anticipation. She was anxious to see Nikita, it had been three years.
After a few minutes, Kordell was in the living room, scrolling on Instagram. The doorbell rang. "I'll get it!" He shouted before getting up to answer the door.
He opened the door and looked the short woman up and down. "Well don't just stand there, give your aunty a hug boy!" Nikita walked towards Kordell with open arms. He returned the embrace.
"Ohhh it's soo nice to see you, Korii!!" She said before letting him go and walking inside the house.
"Oh my godd!!" Renee ran towards Nikita and gave her a well needed embrace. They let go of each other and Renee took in her older sister's appearance.
Nikita was around 5'4 with a petite body. For her to be almost 40, she looked about 25. She had Beautiful tan skin and small bubbled bright brown eyes. She resembled Louis a lot, considering Louis and her share the same father.
"You look good, girl!" Renee complimented Nikita. "Thank you! That's what Florida's weather does to you. Nikita bragged.
Nikita had moved down to Florida about six years ago. She came up here occasionally but not as often as she used to. She married a rich man and hardly ever looked back.
"Does Raul know you're out here?" Kordell asked his aunt. The room became silent. "No. I'm going to see him after dinner." Nikita responded. Kordell knew the relationship Raul had with his mother. He already knew Raul had no clue Nikita had come to town, if Raul did, he would've been boasting about it to Kordell. Kordell didn't want to get in the middle of it so he decided against giving Raul a heads up.
Nikita got settled and everyone sat down and began to eat. "So how is Richard?" Renee asked Nikita. "He's great. We've been doing very well. I wanted him to come down here but he had to work." Nikita replied. "That's too bad." Renee shook her head.
