Updated Chapter
Grunts and moans of pain fill the air of the lumière resident's family home. A small house somewhere on a hill in the city of New Orleans. The sight of the two siblings sparring against one another with all their might in their backyard. Marcus, the 30-year-old brother who stands proud with the green eyes he inherited from his father and the curly locks on his head from his mother fighting with his little sister in hand-to-hand combat with determination to train her. Vataelia. The 19-year-old had dropped out of school earlier than most of her peers. Her old friends who she had to leave behind in Texas to flourish on her own. Friends who envied her and loved her. Her Young and naive appearance can be quite deceiving but she's got one hell of a right hook. Learning to fight to protect herself was easy. For her. Blocking her brother's kicks and punches and managing to land a few hits here and there. But that was before she zoned out into her own little world. Giving Marcus the upper hand.

"Focus Vataelia!" Marcus, my brother said as he kicked me off my Feet.
I let out a gasp as my body hits the hard grass-covered ground. I got up, quickly recovering from my fall. I managed to catch his fist before it could come in contact with my face. I pulled his fist towards me. With a firm grip on his fist, I twist his arm causing him to let out a grunt. Still holding his arm in my hands, I lifted my leg to kick him on his stomach and swiftly swept his feet off the ground, causing him to fall flat on his face. I sigh and sat down with my legs crossed and looked at him.
"I think you're the one who needs to focus brother."
I said with a cheeky smile. Despite my winning, he was most definitely not pleased
He pushed himself up so that he could see my face. He was giving me a look that says 'are you serious?'. I just sighed in response.
"Vee-" he paused to sit crossed-legged in front of me. "What's going on with you? It's been years Mon Chou. You can't keep hiding away." He said. while keeping eye contact with me. I hated it when he called me that. I had so many things I wanted to say but nothing came out. I need my brother. I can't lose him. I just sat there, staring at my brother unsure what to say.
He looked down at his lap before bringing his eyes to meet mine.
"I'm only trying to look out for you." he placed his hands on mine. "Why don't you go take a walk? Go adventure around the city, meet new people, and just go have some fun?" I looked at him like he was crazy. I cringed at the idea of me having to socialize with people who I barely know. But he gave me a look as if pleading with his eyes to say yes.
"Marcus, have you ever met me? I would much rather spend some time talking to myself and besides! I have Aiden to talk to!" I groaned.
"partners from the lab don't count Vee..." Marcus
"do you want me to make a fool out of myself ???" I wailed
He let out a breath and chuckled.
"It's part of the process buttercup. Just don't be back too late and text me if anything happens. Alright?" I sigh and look into his emerald green eyes with my hazel brown ones.
"Alright."
I gave in to his stupid face. I swear sometimes he's such a cinnamon roll.
