Honey's packing up to fly home to Kentucky. Right as she starts, her phone beeps.

Honey: Is Ben texting me?

Her heart sinks when she sees it's just a Chapters notification.

Honey: I should send him an email, though.

Later on, she stares at the blank email body on her laptop screen.

Honey: I'm gonna send emails to all my professors. But sending one to Ben feels different. Like I'm saying bye to my boyfriend. But he's not my boyfriend. He made that clear.

Honey starts typing.

Honey: "Dear Ben... I'm headed back to Kentucky for a bit. I'll make sure to turn in all my work."

She hesitates, then add one last line.

Honey: "I'll miss you."

She pushes Ben out of her mind and start packing for the trip.

Honey: I'm guessing the next few days will keep me too busy to think about missing a certain professor.

A few days later, Honey climbs down from a tractor, wincing from the pain of her sore muscles.

Honey: "I forgot how hot and sweaty it gets working out here."

Dad: "You've been away for less than three months and you're already soft."

Honey: "I am not."

She wipes the sweat from her brow the stratvhes her arms over her head with a groan.

Her dad laughs out loud.

Dad: "I reckon the evidence speaks for itself."

Honey: "Hey, you try staying in shape sitting in a classroom all day."

Dad: "Let's call it a day. Get some reast and we'll start again early tomorrow morning."

Honey: I could use a drink to numb my sore muscles.

Honey: "I'm going to clean up then go out for a little while."

Dad: "You should say hi to some of your old friends. I know Elmer's been dying to see you."

Honey: "I'm sure I'll run into them at Lester's. Not like there's anywhere else to go around here."

An hour later, Honey arrives at Lester's bar.

Country music blares in the background. Several jean-clad men play pool. Three giggling girls are practicing line dancing.

Honey: This place is just how I remember it.

Elmer: "Well, I heard rumors, but I didn't believe them."

Elmer's voice comes from behind Honey.

Elmer: "Honey is home from her fancy college and came for a drink with the likes of us."

Honey: "Don't get excited. I'm only here for a few days."

Elmer scoops her into a bear hug.

Elmer: "A few days is better than nothing. I was getting worried we'd never see you again."

Honey: "I'll always be back for visits. You know I can't go too long without Mama's cooking."

Three other bodies join the hug.
