Alexander adjusted his white shirt nervously as the elevator rode down. He fidgeted in the elevator.
"Do you think he'll say yes?" He asked Ryder who stood next to him. Alexander had been working up the nerve for a week to ask Kane out on a date. He'd never had to ask anyone out on a date, honestly he never wanted to be with anyone as much as he wanted to be with Kane.
Ryder chuckled, "Wow."
"Wow what? Is it my hair? My cologne?" Alexander started to become self-conscious. In all his adult years of living, he'd never been nervous like this. "Am I too overdressed? Is-"
"Alex, you look great. I said wow because I can't believe you took this changing thing serious. You've really changed." Ryder complimented.
Ryder had really watched his best friend since diapers become a better man for Kane. He had been there through all of it. Every milestone, every setback, Ryder was there for it. He had seen Alexander at his worst, with suicide attempts and drinking habits, the countless therapy sessions, listening to Alexander cry all night on the phone because he hated himself for what he did to Kane, and now he was seeing him at his best.
"I did it for him." Alexander smiled as he thought of Kane.
"I'm proud of you. I really am."
"Any news on Clint?" Alexander asked as the elevator stopped on the first floor.
"He's in the wind. He'll show up again. He is your father's business partner."
They both got off the elevator as the walked to the receptionist desk where Kane and Lia stood servicing clients. Ryder stopped in his tracks as his eyes fell on Lia. She was a beauty. Her hijab was wrapped securely around her head, her makeup was flawless, and she was just astoundingly beautiful.
"Who is she?" Ryder asked Alexander as they walked across the lobby.
"That's Kane's friend Lia. She's really nice." Alexander smirked as Ryder stared at Lia.
"She's beautiful."
Once they made it to the receptionist desk they saw Lia and Kane dealing with a customer so they waited.
"Sir, I understand ya' upset but it ain't nothin' I can do 'bout dat otha' than referrin' ya' ta' corporate." Kane rolled his eyes as he explained to the man for the thirtieth time.
"I'll be speaking with your manager soon." The man scoffed as he looked Kane up and down. "Your incompetency is unsavory."
Alexander wanted to say something but he knew Kane, and with how moody he's been lately, he was going to handle this well.
"Ya' got one more time ta' say some rude and I'm comin' across da' counter. I let ya' rude ass remarks slide since ya' came through them doors. I told ya' once dat I couldn't fix da' issue 'cause it ain't what I do. I'm da' fuckin' receptionist, not da' corporate office. So waltz ya' lil thin hair havin' ass out da' door befo' I have ta' call my boy ta' come air this hotel out." Kane threatened before smiling sweetly.
