It was a normal day for the Lopez family, until... we will just have to get to that later. Luna waking up to go to school and her mother and father getting ready to go to work at firehouse 51. She's getting ready to walk out the door when her parents say goodbye and she's out the door ready to walk to school, but before school she has to stop to see something very near and dear to her heart. Her horse name MIdnight is a pure breed Rocky Mountain Horse. They keep her at a stable right down the road from her house the stable is called Cottonwood Stable. As she is walking in the cold to school all she can hear is the cars honking, people talking and as she gets closer to school she can hear the school bell ring. She's already dreading the thought of having to go to school because she's not ready for all the comments about how she's not pretty, how short she is or how she's too skinny. She's walking to her first class which she has with her girlfriend Amelia and one of her only friends Athena. While Athena can be popular if she wants because she has the looks, she chooses to hang out with Luna. They are some of the only people who know almost everything about her what she likes, what she doesn't, and probably are the only ones that know her goal in life. They also know that she doesn't get along with her mother and there is a screaming match almost every morning no matter if it's a holiday or her birthday, in her mother's eyes she is always wrong. Amelia and Luna first meet when they had health together and were also partners where they soon became best friends and eventually became girlfriends. Soon she realizes that she just zoned out for all her class and she has to go to her next one. Again it all becomes a blur she's thinking about this morning where dad didn't tell her I love you or anything which isn't normal, while there goes another she didn't pay attention to. Soon she realizes she has to go to lunch, which she forgot to grab her lunch because she just wanted to get away from her mother. The day just slowly drones on when she gets to her last class of the day which is one of her favorite class which is her language class. She starts to think about all she has to do after school such as a bell ringer then the notes, there is some practice to go with that and then homework. All she's thinking about is that time couldn't go faster she just wants to go to her job which she loves so much.

It has been a long day at work and it has only been about 2 hours into the shift. They have had about 2 police assist, 5 ems calls(which he didn't have to go to), 1 car accident, and 2 potentially house fires. The crew has been trying to clean the firehouse between all the calls because 1st shift made a mess of the cabinets in the kitchen and the trucks. To top that off, he has to worry about cooking lunch and dinner for the guys because it's his turn. For lunch he is going to make soup that his grandmother used to make for him and his cousins. Then for dinner his plan is to make a taco bar with all the different toppings. He is getting ready to prep the ingredients for the soup while listening to the news on the tv. While listening to the news he hears them mentation a huge apartment building fire on Clinton street. The news briefly mentation that they are going to call for a 2nd alarm. The difference between 1st alarm and 2nd alarm is that a 1st alarm is a 1st has 2 pumpers, 1 rescue unit, a ladder truck and a chief to run the call, but a 2nd alarm is more serious where they have double the equipment of what the 1st alarm has. They run to the trucks slip off the boots get in there PPE gear which is by a brand called Globe. They hop in the truck and they go flying through the streets of Chicago with lights and sirens blaring. On the way to call everybody is dead silent which is weird normal they are all full of life, everybody joking and laughing to try to escape the fact that this might be their last call. They get to the call the blazing fire is pink which means that its caused by potassium chloride. Common term for the firefighters is the blaze is a rolling, "smokes a going fellows," you could hear one of the captions shouting from the distance. You could see your wife run off to the distance where the civilians are sitting waiting for medical attention from the paramedics. Everybody's overwhelmed firefighters running to get hose and fire extinguishers while the medics run to the patient and ambulances to get supplies to treat them the best they can with the circumstances they are in. You are told by the commanding officer to get your gear on because you and a couple other guys are going to go in and see if anybody from the factory is inside still. As you are preparing your gear and SCBA(self-contained breathing apparatus) you can see your wife look your way as you start to walk closer to the building. You run into the building and radio back that you need a couple medics inside because there are people inside that you can't move. You think this area you are in is safe but in reality nothing is safe in a building burning. The medics come in and you see that one is your wife you already start to feel jittery about this situation because you think about your 15 year old daughter at school depending on you to come home. All of a sudden you hear a loud bang from inside the building so you tell everybody that you need to start to move out. Next thing you know is that you hear they loudest bang ever in your life and the floor starts to collapse beneath you, and pieces are falling as everything is in slow motion. All the books you have read were people die in and it says how the characters life flash before their eyes that same thing is happening to you. You see images of your beautiful daughter, your amazing wife, your hometown that you risked your life to protect, and all your "family" at the firehouse that spent your career at. Then it all goes black.

Luna was minding her own business doing her work, as she is doing her work she hears the phone ring which she thinks nothing about because it happens all the time. Then a couple minutes later she hears the door open with a long squeak. She intends to peak her head up for a bit but that's not going to happen because she sees her father and mother's fire chief standing in the doorway and that could only mean one thing. She gets up and runs to the doorway and to him and just hugs him as he takes her outside the classroom to tell her the bad news. From there he tells her the bad news that her parents are dead and not coming back to her. Everything happens in a blur one minute she's sitting in her class and the next thing is that she is an orphan. Next thing he tells her is that since he is her godfather his going to take her in with his wife. She then runs out of school and goes to the horse stable to visit Midnight and hopefully she can find some kind of peace with her life. She couldn't believe the day she just had that she ends up falling asleep with her horse. As she falls asleep we see the skyline of Chicago, the home of many heroes the ones that unrecognized and the ones that are. To much dismay many of the firefighters that have fallen in the line of duty and will never go home to their families will not be remembered for all that they have done for the city that they love so much.
