Prologue
——

Maybe it was because she never seemed to fit in with any of the kids at school, or maybe it was because she was neglected by her parents all the time. Maybe it was even because she had been living on the island for a whole year now, and she hadn't done anything besides go to school and go home. She wanted something more, something that made her feel like she alive because quite frankly, the way things were going right now, she felt like she hadn't felt a single moment of happiness in a long time.

Regardless of the reason as to why she was here, she was. What was more important was what she was here for. She wanted to learn to surf, and she had heard that this part of the island had the best waves. However, ever since she got here, she hadn't moved from her spot.

She sat on the sand a few feet away from the water, her new surfboard lying next to her.

She sighs.

She shouldn't have come. This was stupid. She didn't know the first thing about surfing. Reading about it was not enough. She could literally die.

Out of the corner of her, she sees a blonde boy run into the water with his own board. She stares at him as he gets further and further into the ocean, eventually catching a wave. As he surfs, she tries to monitor his each movement, making a mental note of what to do and what not to do. After a few waves, he makes his way of the ocean just as Rhea picks up her own board, getting a wave of courage. They walk past each other, making eye contact as they do. Rhea sees his face for the first time.

Suddenly, she feels a wave of embarrassment hit her and she blushes under his stare. He was pretty attractive.

Did he see her stare?

He drops his gaze to the board in her hand, smirking slightly as he looks back up at her.

"First time?" He questions, water dripping from his hair as he walks a bit closer to her. She stares up at him, only now realizing how tall he was.

"Uh yeah," she laughs nervously, "that obvious huh?"

He nods, smirking again, "Yeah, you were watching me for a while there"

Rhea's blush is a lot worse this time. He had seen her. She clears her throat and looks away from the boy in embarrassment, "Oh, you saw. Sorry about that."

He grins at her. He wasn't sure why she was embarrassed.

"Tourist?" He wonders out loud and she shakes her head, turning back to look at him.

"No, I live on figure eight," she explains.

Almost instantly, she watches the smile drop from the guys face. She tilts her head in confusion. Did she say something wrong?

"Oh so you're a kook," he doesn't try to hide the disgust in his voice.

She had heard about this kook vs pouge thing from a few people at school throughout the school year. She thought it was all very stupid. She had never witnessed something as dumb as the kook and pouge system before.

"Yo, you deadass right now?" She questions, scoffing slightly.

Was everyone on this island classist?
