As soon as we land in London, Brad drives us back to Birmingham where we crash at my place. We're both exhausted after a day's worth of travel and go straight to bed without even showering, falling asleep the moment our head hits the pillow. When I wake up the next day, my first reflex is to pat the bed next to me, thinking my hand would encounter Brad's body at some point, but it doesn't. I open my eyes to realize I'm alone in my bed so I get up, still in my underwear and grab Brad's Stussy sweatshirt before quickly putting it on and I leave the room to find him. Hopefully he's still at my place and hasn't ran away already. To my relief, I find him standing in the kitchen, leaning against the counter, his eyes looking blankly through the window, his phone on his ear.

"I know, mom", I hear him say as I quietly enter the room. "Yes, today, I promise", he continues while I open the fridge to grab a bottle of milk, making him turn in my direction as he finally notices my presence in the room. The smell coming from the bottle instantly makes me gag and I quickly drain the expired liquid down the sink, holding my breath to not throw up there and then. I probably should have thought about emptying my fridge before leaving for the other side of the world for a week. The morning's off to a great start as I'm now forced to drink my coffee black. Ew. "I'll let her know", Brad adds before connecting his body to my back while I place a cup under the coffee machine and press on the green button, making the hot brown liquid start to pour. I feel his hand wander on my hips and along my stomach as his head finds its way to my neck where he places soft kisses. "Mm hmm", he continues, clearly not paying attention to whatever his mom is saying. I turn around to face him, and mouth him to tell Anne-Marie I say hi. "Mm hmm, yeah", he says again as I hear Anne-Marie talk on the other side of the line. "Em says hi. (...) Yeah something like that (...) Of course she does (...) No she's probably expecting some juicy gossip (...) Can we talk about this when I'm home? (...) I already said I would (...) I don't know, like 1 pm or something? (...) Yes, I'll ask her (...) Okay that's it I'm hanging up (...) alright, hanging up now, bye mom (...) bye", he finally says before taking his phone off his ear and putting it down on the counter.

"That sounded like an intense call", I say in a mocking tone.

"You have no idea", Brad answers as he grabs the cup of fresh coffee I just made myself and starts sipping on it in front of me.

"Excuse me?", I say, stealing the cup away from his hands. "That's mine, make your own", I add before taking a sip of the dark liquid. I can't help but wince at how acidic it is. Black coffee is definitely not my thing. "Fine, have it", I sigh, seeing the smirk on Brad's face and hand him the cup. "How's your mom?"

"Mad", he answers, making me raise an eyebrow. "I've been avoiding her calls for the past week and let's just say she's a bit upset I took off to Bali without any notice"

"Understandable", I say as I get out of his grip and open the fridge for the second time, hoping that fresh food would have miraculously appeared since I last opened it a couple of minutes ago. "She's barely seen you between the tour and Bali", I add as I close the fridge, defeated and turn back to Brad who's still leaning against the counter. "Who's expecting some juicy gossip?"

"Nat, apparently she's been asking mom a lot of questions about us"

The way he said 'us' resonates with me. We're an 'us'. I mean we've always been but we're a different kind of 'us' now and I can't even try to hide the smile on my lips at the sound of it.

"Has she?", I answer as I walk towards Brad and wrap my arms around his waist. "What did you tell your mom about us?"

A smirk appears on his lip and he places his hands on my hips, pulling me even closer to him.

"That you're very loud in bed", he answers, struggling to keep a straight face.

"Hilarious", I say, giving him a very unimpressed look. "I still can't believe you tricked me into telling Tris about us"
