"Shisui... is that you?"
The raven let a smile slip in. He was visibly pleased with the answer.
"Yeah, Hokage-sama. Took you long enough."
•*•*•*•
Hiruzen openly gaped.
This shouldn't be possible.
No way!
Life isn't supposed to spare people, you get killed; you die. There shouldn't be a way out. That's the way it's supposed to be.
And yet, Hiruzen could clearly see that the shinobi in front of him was Shisui Uchiha, a boy that died years ago.
No mistake, there is no way in hell that it wasn't him.
But still, how?
The poor old man wasn't prepared for that.
Except, he wasn't the third Hokage for no reason. In no time he regained his composure. He did not want to look like an idiot in a situation like that.
For a reason he did not understand, something pushed him to believe that Shisui was really the person in front of him.
But even so, he couldn't take the risk of everything being a trick. He got to have proofs- anything- that could show that the claim was indeed true.
"Give me one reason I should believe you." He decided to finally ask.
The teen immediately replied, not even batting an eye, "You can ask me anything. I know it might be unbelievable but I'm really here."
The Hokage pondered for a few seconds. If this boy was a spy, he must know how to answer basic questions, the most logical thing to do would be to not ask anything, to see if the person would make a mistake, or ask something simple and vague to see if the person would know how to answer.
"Then, you can tell me what your role in the village was."
Easy.
"I was an anbu directly under your wings, at one point you asked me to mediate between my clan and the village, I ended up having to join the military force and became a double spy for you... that's about it."
The Hokage hummed, everything was true. It was a S-ranked secret, and the files were burned, so the chances that anyone knowing that were very small. But even so, Hiruzen, again, shouldn't be taking any chances.
Seeing that his leader was doubtful of his loyalties, Shisui calmly removed his coat to show the ANBU mark on his shoulder.
Hiruzen stood up from his desk, face unreadable, and carefully made his way toward the teen to analyze the tattoo.
Shisui tensed as the Hokage came close enough to touch him. He became even more uncomfortable when Hiruzen decided to put his hand on the surface of the tattoo.
ANBU tattoos were unique and impossible to copy. It was essentially made with such complexity so that it would be easy for higher-ups to recognize a spy. The fact that this child just showed him the mark is a good enough proof in itself.
