[Note: PICTURES AREN'T MINE and this chapter takes place years before Leah moved in with them]

"Leon! No hiding!" Leah screamed as she looked around the yard for her brother. There beneath the treehouse sits Leon who is doing his best to keep his laughter. "Leo-!!!"

"Gotcha!" Leon jumped from behind the tree and hugged Leah from the back. "You're still it." Leon said which made his little sister frown.

"I'm always it!" Leah whined as she crossed her arms to show him she's upset.

"Leah! Leon! Come on inside! Lunch's ready!" Their mother told them as she stood at the porch, a tray of juice and cups in hand.

"Got it, mom!" Leon replied. He held Leah by the hand then walked inside the house. "Have you got your card ready?" He faced Leah who happily nodded.

"It's full of glitters!" She beamed.

Leon laughed then said, "I'm sure mom will love it." They planned to surprise their mother for mother's day. They already asked their father to buy poppers and balloons for the event.

The two sat on their chairs and happily waited for their mother to come back from the kitchen. They saw their father walk pass the dining room with the poppers and balloons in hand. At the same time, their mother was about to exit the kitchen.

Quick on his feet, Leon distracted their mother. "Mom! Mom! I'll bring this in the dining room! You get the other foods!" He said. Their mother was hesitant as the bowl she's holding is hot, but seeing her persistent son jump up and down, she sighed and gave him the bowl.

"Be careful with it, okay?" Their mother tapped his nose. He beamed at her before bringing the bowl over on the table.

"Wahhh!! Mushroom soup!" Leah exclaimed as she stood on her chair to lean on the table. Taking the ladle, she poured some on her bowl and sipped on it.

"Leah, let's wait for mom and dad." Leon said making her put the bowl down.

As soon as they were complete, they began eating. Leon and Leah told their parents what happened while they were out working.

"...and then the bird went woosh and took my biscuit!" Leah complained as she imitated the way the bird flew down to grab her biscuit.

"That's because you were holding it out." Leon pointed out before drinking his juice.

"That bird stole my food!" By now, Leah is on the verge of crying after remembering the incident that happened earlier.

"Sweetie, don't cry. We can get more biscuits next time." Their father said as he pinched Leah's cheeks. Wiping her eyes, Leah smiled and continued eating.

"But no more chocolates. Both of you ate a lot yesterday." Their mother stated. Both Leah and Leon smiled guiltily as they lowered their heads.

"Come on, honey. Their kids...but kids shouldn't eat too much sweets or else they'll get cavities!" Their father gave each one of them a candy bar.

"Thanks dad!" They both said in unison. This made their mother sigh, but she smiled after.

"That's the only one you'll be getting today." Their mother said to which they happily agreed.

"Sshhh...Your mom might hear us." Their father shushed them as they set dinner outside. Their mother didn't know what they're doing because she is currently on the phone in their room.

"Dad! Dad!" Leah pulled on their father's shirt. "How do I activate this?" She held up a popper.

"I'll activate it. You're too young." He ruffled her hair. Both his statement and action made her pout.

"I'm already 7..." She mumbled.

"I'll let you handle this when you get older so don't pout." Their dad kneeled down so he can be on the same level as her.

"Promise?" Leah asked while she reached out her pinky for him to take.

"Promise." Their dad linked his pinky with hers before they continued to set up for mother's day.

"Leah? Leon?" Their mother began to panic when she didn't see her husband nor her children. She began to run around the house, frantically looking for them. She was about to call for the police when she saw a paper stuck on the wall.

'Folow tha arrou!'

She ran her fingers across the paper. The writing was definitely from her daughter since her son spelled perfectly fine. Giggling, she followed the squiggly arrow.

'Getting closer.'

This time, it was her son who wrote on the paper. She continued to walk until she saw a banner hanging from the backdoor.

'Surprise!!'

The banner had drawings of their kids as well as sayings written by her husband. Smiling, she opened the backdoor and there she saw the ones she was looking for. Leah and Leon held balloons while her husband popped a popper.

"Happy mother's day, mom!" Her children screamed. Leah ran up to her then hugged her. Leon followed, holding her hand.

"The children told me their plan yesterday." Her husband scratched the back of his head. He remembered how the kids explained their plan to him. He could barely understand what they were saying, but he managed to make out what they called big explosive colorful paper sticks, which meant the poppers, and balloons.

"Aww~ Thanks." Their mother couldn't help but tear up. Leah and Leon only ever found out about mother's day and father's day a month ago which was why this was first time they celebrated it.

"Card! Card! Card!" Leah chanted as she held up the card she made. Leon laughed at the amount of glitter sprinkled on the paper. Patting Leah's head, their mother took the cards they made before they began to officially celebrate the occasion.

Leon placed his phone down when he felt a tear roll down his face. Closing his eyes, he covered his face with his hand then smiled bitterly.

Two years has passed since the last time he saw his little sister and his mother. Today is mother's day...but he couldn't celebrate it because he's far from his mother.

The posts he saw on Facebook made him remember the first time they celebrated the occasion. He hated it because every time he remembers it, he couldn't stop himself from crying.

Removing his hands, he looked at the ceiling full of glow in the dark stars. Reaching out a hand to nothing, he sighed.

"I miss you...mom... Happy mother's day..." He said softly as tears continued to fall from his eyes.
