Cole and I were walking hand in hand together into school today. He was in a bad mood today and I'm not sure why. When we woke up he would barely talk to me, he also didn't eat any breakfast. He's going to be hangry now too.
I squeezed his hand to try and get him to smile, but nothing. He wouldn't even glance at me.
"I'm going to go to my locker, I'll see you later." I went to give him a quick kiss but he turned around and was already heading down the hallway.
Did I do something? Why was he acting like this?
"Hey girl." I turned to see my best friends walking towards me.
"Hey guys." I smiled at them. Myra was wearing a pretty yellow shirt with a denim skirt. The weather was a lot warmer than it's been in a while.
Clint was wearing a pair of khakis and a t-shirt.
"My mom almost burnt my house down today." Clint spoke suddenly causing Myra and I to burst out at our best friend.
"Those damn waffles. She can't cook, what was she even thinking." He laughed smiling at us.
"I haven't seen your mom in a while how has she been?" I asked readjusting my backpack on my shoulders.
"She's been concerningley open to trying new things." He sighed causing all of us to break out into fits of laughter again.
"Where is mister moody Judy?" Asked Myra glancing at her manicured hands.
"He's grumpy today, I think he's just tired." I frowned. He really hasn't acted that way around me in months.
The two minute bell rang signaling that it was time to go to first period. We said our goodbyes before heading to our classes. I took my seat in history pulling out my plastic binder preparing to take notes. I barely paid any attention during that entire class. I was too worried about Cole and why he was acting out.
I walked out of the class and usually Cole would be there and we would spend the five minutes between classes together, but he wasn't. I frowned and made my way to my next class. Finally the morning trudged on eventually getting to lunch. I walked into the cafeteria and went to our table. He wasn't here either.
I frowned before sitting down with Myra and Clint.
"Hey guys." I smiled at them.
"Hey girlie." Smiled Myra.
"I'm tired." I yawned resting my head in my arms.
"Aren't we all." Laughed Clint.
"You guys want to hang out after school today?" I asked them hopeful, especially if Cole isn't planning on speaking to me.
"I can't today I have a test and a project due tomorrow, sorry. Maybe after school tomorrow?" She suggested and I just nodded.
"Definitely tomorrow then."
The bell rang signaling the end of lunch. I made my way to math and Cole was no where to be found.
I discreetly pulled out my phone and sent Cole a quick text asking where he was. But he never answered.
I frowned. What was going on with him today?
I walked home, his truck wasn't in the parking lot either. I decided to make a pit stop at the cemetery of say hi to Dad.
I walked on the squishy mud making a noise under my shoes as I located my Dads gravestone.
I kneeled down in front of it not caring if I was getting it wet.
"Hey Dad, I hope your doing okay up there." I smiled squeezing my eyes shut in hope of stopping the tears that were threatening to spill from my eyes.
"Cole is being a butt today, I probably shouldn't stay too long it looks like it's going to rain and I don't want all my books to get wet. I'll come visit you again tomorrow, I promise." I ran my hand across his gravestone before making my way to the exit. When I got home it had just begun to drizzle.
Cole's truck was parked in front of my house. He was home. I walked inside dropping my bag by the door.
"Cole?" I called out.
I walked into the kitchen to see him sitting at the table.
He was looking at his phone not sparing me a single glance.
I had, had enough. I reached over the table grabbing his phone and throwing it onto the couch.
"What is going on with you?" I asked feeling extremely annoyed. "You Do realize you ditched school today, you never spoke a word to me, did I do something wrong?" I frowned.
"I don't need to tell you anything, it is none of your fucking business so stay the hell out of it." He said pressing his pointer finger at me.
"Just talk to me." I begged, I wanted everything to go back to how it was.
"Leave me the fuck alone." He said pushing me to the side. But with my excellent motor skills I tripped over my feet and crashed hard into the floor.
He didn't apologize or try to help me up, he just walked over to the couch grabbing his phone before walking towards the door.
"Where are you going?" I asked him rushing over to the door.
"Can you shut the fuck up? I don't want to hear your fucking annoying voice. I'm sick and tired of you butting into all my business, it's not my fault you are just an attention whore, guess we have your father to thank for that." I froze at those words feeling a tear slide down my cheek. His face immediately fell
"Get out." I snapped wiping furiously at the tears that refused to stop. His face immediately showed regret the second that left his lips.
"Skye.."
"Get out of my house!" I Yelled at him. He frowned and walked over to the door yanking it opened, and slamming it shut. I let my knees give out as I hugged myself on the floor. Why do people I love keep disappearing from me, first mom, then dad and now Cole, what was so wrong with me?
