sitting opposite my big brother steve, i poured syrup over my pancakes and thanked him for making them.

our parents were barely ever around, so it was mainly me and him, so we were pretty close.

obviously we had occasional arguments, every sibling does, but since our parents were never really around so he's sort of a parental figure to me.

a click of the door opening was heard, and we both turn to see who it was.

"hey y/n." robin high-fives me as she walks through the door and into the kitchen.

steve drove himself and robin to work, since they had gotten closer and we lived near each other so it made sense.

sometimes i would go with them- either to hang around with other friends at the mall, roam around by myself or stay with robin and steve at scoops.

steve and i were finishing off our pancakes, so robin joined us in the kitchen while she waited.

"you coming to the mall with us today?" robin asked me, leaning against the counter.

"no thanks, i'm going to mike's-" i start telling robin, but shortly got cut off.

"that son of a bitch." steve muttered under his breath, but we all clearly heard it.

"what?" i looked expectantly at steve, wanting to know why he was so rude towards mike all of a sudden- even though we have been hanging out since elementary school.

"steve, leave her alone." robin nudged him and muttered to him quietly.

"is anyone else gonna be there?" he persists, and i tell him it's gonna be the whole party there.

he has a more relieved look on his face, but still doesn't seem keen on the idea.

spending a moment deciding whether i wanted to know why steve was acting so weird, i eventually decided against it and brushed it off.

"come on steve, were gonna be late." robin says and stands up straight.

steve gives me a quick hug and i say goodbye to robin and we all leave the house together.

before they drive off, steve rolls down his window and loudly says "pull that skirt down" like an overprotective dad.
robin hits him lightly and i heard her say "dingus" before the car speeds off.

it was a short walk to mike's house, we didn't live far away, so it only took me a few minutes to get there.

after hanging out with the party all day, i made my way back home and was greeted with steve already sat in the living room.

"hey, how was mike's?" steve said begrudgingly. what was his problem?

"good, how was work?"

not even bothering to answer my question, he quizzes me on everything that happened at mike's- which was the same as usual- nothing in particular.

after trying to ask him what this was all about, he just dismissed the questions and we ended up making dinner and watched tv until our parents got home late at night.

.....

"y/n! come look! another one." robin whisper-shouts to me while rushing over to the small window dividing the room and the counter of scoops ahoy, sliding it open a tint bit so we could see.

even though i didn't work there, steve and robin allowed me in the back room to keep them company at work.

today was another one of those days- before meeting some friends, robin and i just laugh at steve trying to chat up girls.
