The day of the UA Sports Festival did not start out the way I thought it would. Between nerves and training, I hadn't gotten much sleep. I'd woken up late and had to spend a good five minutes trying to cover up the dark circles under my eyes. I'd had to run to school, so I was out of breath when I got to the waiting room. And I was still late.

"You're late," Bakugo said.

"Wow, I had no idea."

After I changed into my gym clothes, I found Denki by the wall. He handed me a cup of tea.

"Thanks," I said. "What are you doing?"

"Charging." Sure enough, there was a phone cord running from his mouth to a wall outlet.

I sat next to him in silence for the few minutes before the Festival would start. The rest of the day wouldn't be so peaceful.

I stood at the edge of the pack, well behind the start line. Well, I assumed we were behind the line. I couldn't see through the people crowded in front of me.

The moment the signal to start sounded, I crouched and barreled through the crowd. Because of my proximity to the ground, I saw the ice coming before anyone else did. I jumped before the ice reached me and used the frozen students as stepping stones until I reached the edge of the ice. I wasn't the only one who had dodged Todoroki's attack. In fact, it seemed barely half had been stopped. I ran with the crowd along the track. When the robots identical to the ones from the entrance exam appeared ahead, I started to panic, but they fell to the ground before I arrived. It was just a matter of getting around them since my quirk was of no help getting through.

I was thankful for my intensive endurance training as I ran to the next obstacle, which turned out to be a series of tightropes over a canyon.

Logically, the school wouldn't want to kill or severely injure anyone, so the canyon couldn't go too far down. I thought it might be some kind of illusion, so I took a rock the size of my fist and dropped it into the darkness. Within a second, I heard the sound of it hitting the ground.

As I glanced back at the students catching up to me, I made eye contact with Denki. With a grin and a wave, I jumped into the canyon behind me. I heard a few gasps as I hit the ground and began running to the other side.

"That's not legal!" someone shouted. "Anyone who falls is eliminated!"

"Kaiya didn't fall," I heard Denki say. "She jumped."

"I'll allow it!" Midnight said. "Creativity is always encouraged."

I smiled to myself and kept running even as I heard the sounds of people following my lead and jumping into the canyon. When I reached the edge, I climbed the few meters up and moved on to the next obstacle.

The minefield was already being navigated by about half a dozen students when I reached the edge. When the next person tried to run past me, I grabbed their arm and threw them into the field. The place in which they had landed blew up, but the student seemed unharmed.

Ignoring what looked like Midoriya flying over the field, I cracked my knuckles and ran through the field. I tried to stick to Todoroki's path, but I misstepped and the ground blew up, sending me flying through the air. I hit the ground hard but rolled and kept running, ignoring the stabbing pain in my hip from where I'd landed. The mine had sent me to the edge of the field, leaving no more obstacles in my way. A few of the students with speed-inclined quirks ran past me, but I was well within the bounds of moving on to the next event.

When I crossed the finish line just behind Momo, I quite literally fell on the ground in exhaustion. My quirk was of no help during the race; my muscles and lungs were screaming.
