I told Haymitch that it was time to go, and we left the books we were going to take. I took Finnick's hand and we went outside. We walked the secret path I found earlier. I looked up at the sky and the tops of the trees. They seemed to be circling around me. Enclosing the gap of air around me.
I was confused. If my mother and my father were those people, why didn’t they tell us. I tried to process exactly what Haymitch said, except Finnick told me that I was walking straight past the house. I walked back. I put down my body on the closest thing possible, the couch. It was green and white stripes everywhere. I fell asleep in its plush feeling. But then I saw a note on the huge door. I walked over to it tore it off and sleepwalked all the way back to the couch.
HEY KIDS,
I AM IN A MEETING BACK IN THE TWELFTH STATE , IN VICTORS VILLAGE.
YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO.
LOVE, MOM.
I was hoping she would say that. That meant we got to see Effie. My mom’s co-worker’s name was Effie. My mom has lots of assistants. She needs all the help she can get. She is running for mayor of the 12th state.
I packed 2 sets of clothes, one film, and a OPHELIOUS. An OPHELIOUS is a communicating device. I can talk to the person and see them. It is in a triangular shape. It has a hologram that pops up and you say who you would like to talk to.
I saw Finnick coming down stairs with a big suit case. I opened it up. Four bags of sugary delights, ten story books, a shirt, three pairs underwear, and a set of building blocks. I took away three of the sugary delights, seven story books, and one pair underwear. I got him more clothing and let him keep his blocks. We set up our bags. I remembered to get my music player, because we all know how much Effie likes to talk.
We gathered our stuff and walked to the store, the hub, to buy train tickets. We get them for free because our mom has controlled our accounts. We stepped out of the hub and wait at the train station.
The train arrived. It slowly parked into place. I picked up Finnick and our bags and carried them to the train. I set down Finnick and and loaded the bags on the steps. Finnick climbed himself aboard, and at that very moment Effie stepped outside.
"Oh, Finnick, Daisy, and... Oh my... Lots of bags." Effie said with her hand tilted over her mouth. She picked me up off the ground and on the train. She took our bags and put them in a white chair with golden wood. My mother said that it looked the same as when she was a small child. I thought, small child? You were about 17, and in the Hunger Games! I wanted to get my mind off of that. I went over to a table with food.
There were chocolates and cupcakes for dessert. There were sandwiches and grapes for snacks. There were two whole chickens for a meal. There were sides of mashed potatoes and other delicious delicacies.
I didn’t want to eat though. I wanted to explore. Every time I have been on this train, theres a different little adventure that happens. I think Effie purposely hides things for us to figure out, but she has never told me about my mother.
I picked myself out of the dark blue, jean feeling couch and walked over to Effie. She was pouring herself water.
"Hey Effie?”
"Yes, Daisy."
"I think I need adventure."
She slowly turned around and tilted her head. She thought for a moment, then smirked.
"Why don’t you go adventure in the 3rd cart over on the left."
I smiled. She turned away and smiled while taking her cup over to Finnick. Finnick bubbled his water with a straw and splashed it on Effie. She shot up like a bullet and went out to a cart on the right.
"Finnick, that was rude." I said.
"I made a funny." he said.
I clasped my lips together tight and went over to the 3rd cart on the left. I hated walking through the doors. I was terrified that the cart would break open and I would fall out. I transferred to the first. Then the second. Following to the third. I opened the steel door.
No. Way.
It was a doll. I came over to it and picked it up. It was a porcelain doll.
Rosy red cheeks, curly brown hair, fair white skin, and a soft little lace dress of the color manila. It was so small and so precious.
I stayed in the cart, looking and hugging the doll. I went back to the cart with Effie and Finnick and got my suitcase. I walked back to the cart with the doll. I examined the doll again. Her expression seemed different. Her blue green eyes seemed worried. I put her in my suitcase, thinking that she should be stolen.
The train shook around and around. It felt uneasy. I was knocked to one side an then I fell. I thought I should get back to main cart. I passed through the first cross over.
SCREECH!
