A Mothers' Love

Joanah's POV

"Mars!" I called Ate Gretchen as she entered the room and hugged her tightly.

We've been together for 2 long years and we already faced a lot of challenges together and in fact, I am already a part of her family and she assigned me as the most youngest 'Godmother' of her two adorable children; Shin Jeonghyun and Shin Suyeon.

Yes! You've read it right. They are koreans because Ate Gretchen married a rich korean man. They accepted me for who I am and they did not criticize my status in life.

"Ooooh, I miss you too Mars. So how's summer?"

She asked excitedly as we sat beside with each other.

"No, how's YOUR summer? Tell me more about Korea"

I asked pleading. I don't want to tell stories about my boring summer. I want her to tell me stories about her vacation, well not really a vacation because they lived there. I want her to tell those stories to me over and over again.

Since I was young, I dream of going there and meet my idols but I don't have any ability to because I was born in a poor family.

We just had our chit-chats when our new teacher arrived. She talked for minutes and read us the rules and regulations.

"Welcome to Nanuri International School!!"

She greeted us. Wonder why I'm in an International School? Well, it's because I'm a scholar and everyone else around me are rich to super rich students and mostly are koreans because it's owned by a korean.

Many months had passed as we go along with our studies and strive hard to finish our last year in senior high school. Ate Gretchen really wanted to finish schooling and become a teacher while I wanted to become a great doctor.

"Ninang!!" (Ninang- Godmother in our language)

Called the son of Ate Gretchen, he is already 8 years old but still having difficulty communicating.

"How are you Jeonghyun?"

I asked but he ignored me and is busy counting and singing with his hands. Since I like to read medical books, I observe for long that there is something wrong with Jeonghyun but I never told Ate Gretchen.

"Mars, why don't we have a check-up on Jeonghyun?"

"Why? What's wrong with him?"

"Well, I'm not really sure"

She just gave me a smile. I know she knows and feels something but I've got a feeling that she's just ignoring it. So I just played along as well.

It's Saturday today!! I heard my phone ring and Ate Gretchen's name is on the screen so I answered it.

"Hello Mars?"

She didn't answered but I heard a sob.

"What happened? Why are you crying?"

"Ca..n y..you come over to my house?"
She asked and I agreed immediately.

I went over to her house passing my two Godchildren and went immediately to her room and there I saw her crying.

"Hey, hey. What happened?"

She hugged me and I comforted her.
