Mr. Kennedy had eyes that can pierce into your soul. He looked at me and gave me a puzzling look. So, how about some of us ask you some questions for you to tell us about yourself and Kiev, do go sit down. Since the drama with Kiev awhile ago, I haven't the chance to scan the class properly and now that I'm standing right in front of them, I really wanted to be back in my bed. Damn you fear. But I had to overcome the fear. So, I made it look like a challenge for me because I know I'm not one to back down from a good challenge.
The questions were pouring in. Several people wanted to know my name, my age, where I lived before coming to Aberdeen ( the town I now live in with my aunt) and how did get so lucky with being cute.
Well, for starters, I began, I am Lana, I am old enough as far as you all are concerned, before coming to Aberdeen, we were residents at Godrich and I have my mom to thank for my beauty charms.
I thought all the questions were over until Kiev had the nerve to ask: I've seen from around here before. You were just a little girl. Where's your mom and dad and your aunt, Jewel?
Time stopped. My heart stopped. I never thought anyone would recognize me. Why did he have to ask me this? Like, right now; right here. I'm not ready to face the demons yet. I was sweating profusely. I had to think of an answer soon, real soon. I can't let him think otherwise.
Damn Kiev, I didn't know you cared so much about the new girl who parked in on your parking space and who'll put you in your place if you don't learn the meaning of personal boundaries and how to mind your damn business; I said in a rush. Now if you'll excuse me, I said to Mr. Kennedy, I'll like to go sit down now. Okay, Mr. Kennedy said, that's enough questions for today so you may go to your seat. Thank you, I said graciously.
Ina reserved a seat for me right next to her at the back of the class. Sitting down, I took out my exercise book as Mr. Kennedy started the lesson; Phrases. I could see Ina looking and me at the corner of my eyes and it looked like she wanted to say something but decided against it.
I couldn't concentrate, my head was spinning. The demons were calling and my broken heart wanted to answer. But I had to take control because control was all I had right now.
