Chapter 2

                        02: The tree

Aika got ready for her task to climb and retrieve an apple from an old tree, as requested by her foster mother whom she calls 'mito-san'

As she was upstairs getting ready, Gon was currently at the living room lacing up his boots while waiting for his step sister.

Aika put on a shirt over her black and white hoodie and tied up the laces on her shoes. When she was about to get out of the door, a tiny voice in the back of her head had reminded her a thing she nearly forgot.

'Right...almost forgot'

Opening her drawer, Aika pulled out a necklace; but instead of a pendant of sorts, it was a ring instead. The ring was a polished silver, with golden touch-ups, inside the ring is a carving that never really made sense to aika, but she paid no mind to it.

She let the necklace swing for awhile, her pastel yellow eyes following the motion of the ring.

Then little by little, she was paying no attention to her surroundings, it was as if she was hypnotised by her own doing.

It was a quiet night. The stars are already out and a young girl was sitting at the edge of a cliff admiring them. The girl breathed out and inhaled the sweet scent of the cold forest night.

"Aika-kun! There you are!" A voice behind her suddenly exclaimed. Aika turned around to see a spiky haired boy with wide brown eyes and an innocent grin.

Aika blinked in surprise "how did you find me?" She asked, amazed by her step-brother's senses.

"It's because of your scent! You always smell like..." gon put his hand in his chin, deep in thought. Aika raised a brow at this and waited for his answer.

"Oh! Like when you take a breather in the lake early in the morning" gon concluded then smiled sweetly at her.

"So to put it bluntly, i smell refreshing?" Her tone half joking and half amazed.

"Exactly!" Gon walked forward and sat down with aika. The both of them sat through a comfortable silence, just looking up at the night sky, not a care in the world.

Aika subconsciously reaches for her necklace that she always wears. This act happens rather often although it was enough to make gon's curiosty spike.

"Aika-kun, you always wear that necklace, and you often touch it when you're either in doubt or deep in thought" gon pointed out, aika got flustered at this.

"I-is it that obvious?" She sweat dropped and scratched the back of her neck.

"Well not really, but i see you sometimes reaching for it"

"Huh..."

"And also you sleep talk" gon pointed out once again rather bluntly.

Aika got a little ticked off by this, because she says stupid things and speaks her thoughts when asleep

"I'm well aware" she deadpanned, gon got up and dusted off his shorts.

"We better get back aika-kun, or else mito-san will be smothering us again" gon remembered the last time the both were out late exploring and they never heard the end of all the scoldings.

Aika chuckled and got up while also dusting off her shorts. Luckily, their grandma was there to save them from all that scolding and reasoned with mito.

The two headed the way they came here, with eyes sharp and reflexes fast, in case of any wild animal encounters

"Aika" a voice rang.

"Aika" it sounds familiar, she noted

"Aika" she felt a rush of familiarity going through her head.

"Here. Keep this and never, ever lose it. Ok?" A young maiden at the age near mito's tucked a cold feeling something inside her tiny, warm hand.

"...AIKA!" She suddenly came back to her senses and looked at the things surrounding her

"What are you doing? Wait did you go back to sleep walking again? Come onnn, you already talk in your sleep—" the voice behind her was going on and on about some random things aika paid no attention to.

'What happened? Gah! This is always happening to me...' aika shook her head and turned around.

"And- what?" The spiky haired boy tilted his head innocently, trouble was written all over aika's face but she covered it quickly with a mask of happiness.

"Hi...sorry about that, i...dozed off i guess" aika shrugged and hooked her necklace, she then hid it under her shirt.

"Alright gon, let's do this!" Aika held a face full of determination, in hopes of livening up gon and covering her true emotions.

THE TREE WAS NOT REALLY EASY TO GO TO.

That was the first thing mito-san mentioned after the two left. Gon and aika parted ways in order to achieve their tasks.

"Ok aika-chan, let's make a deal..."
"Hm? What deal would you propose" aika's tone was laced with interest and amusement.

"Whoever finishes their task first...will have to do whatever the other one says for...say two months?" Gon turned his head towards aika's, looking for any arguments about his proposition.

Aika put her fingers to her chin, thinking.

"Add in no secrets and we've got a deal"

Gon smirked and held out his pinky.

"Promise?"

Aika smirked as well and hooked her pinky in his

"You've got my word, spiky"

"I thought you forgot about that nickname" gon unhooked his pinky and sulked. Aika crossed her arms and added smugly

"Of course I didn't...it's your signature nickname after all"

Dodging the rocks and branches in the way of her path, Aika continued to follow the directions mito-san told her.

'I am so gonna win this, spiky'

I am SO sorry for the delay of this episode ;~;

I have this...rule in my house where i have days without gadgets(not including the tv tho ;)) and i did something that made me have two days without gadgets >:(

Anyways... im also very sorry that this chapter is so short from my latest one, i promise to update often.
