               04: picking an apple

See, climbing trees have always been a talent to aika, her legs are her strong point in means of climbing and running.

Right about now, the brunette was dangling at a branch with her legs swinging back and forth getting ready to leap from the branch across her.

She's been at it for about 15 minutes now and only three more branches and that apple would soon be hers.

'Never knew picking an apple was this hard' she mused as she swung from branch to branch. Once in awhile resting at a branch and hanging upside down with her legs, thinking.

That time was now. Aika was staring at the view of the small trees from the branch she was dangling on.

'This tree sure is tall, or it's just that im slow...' she pondered. Long story short, aika almost fell and was saved by a branch.

Once she calmed her nerves she looked around for the apple, and there it was, with all it's juicy and red glory, the abnormally big apple now that she was much closer than before.

Aika made a quick jump and landed at the branch growing the lonely apple. She picked it from its branch and polished the apple from her sleeve.

She smiled triumphantly and observed the apple. It looked like any apple, except it was far bigger and redder than any apple she ever saw. Turning it around, she saw a tint of gold beneath the dark crimson.

She shrugged and put it in her bag for safety and started descending the tree with far more fast pace, probably because she wants to go back as fast as she could to see how her brother was doing.

                                  ***

It's been precisely 3 and a half hours ever since Aika got back to their humble home with ached muscles and messy hair. She took a hot bath and changed into some shorts and a t-shirt hoodie.

Right now, she was at the living room, sitting down at one of those big and cushiony chairs that came with a couch. She was studying the apple, turning it around, sideways and upside down.

Mito walked into the living room and almost laughed at how Aika's face was scrunched up with concentration on the big, red apple on her hands.

She walked over to her and ruffled her slightly damp hair, much to aika's annoyance. She looked up at her aunt with a scrunched up face, her eyes screaming curiosity.

"Let me guess" Mito said, promptly sitting down at the couches in the living room. "You want to know why i sent you to get an apple, right?"

Aika looked at her aunt- well, foster aunt, she supposed, curiously. She tossed her the apple and leaned forward to hear her aunt's explanation. Mito caught the apple and looked at the girl before her and sighed. You've grown so much, Aika she thought sadly.

"This apple is...let's see, a legacy of sorts to the people who planted that tree" she began, Aika leaning in more out of interest. Mito continued her story with Aika making sounds of surprise or confusion, either way she still listened.

"Wait... so this apple that was believed to be a cure for some sicknesses and was just a regular apple?" Mito nodded and Aika gaped.

Mito shot her a sheepish smile and told her to get ready for dinner and rest, for both of them are going to see how gon was doing.
