Chapter 3

              03: this is unexpected

Hours have passed since Aika and Gon parted ways to accomplish their tasks to go to the hunter exam. Aika has reached the tree that was at the edge of a cliff just as mito said.

'I'll rest for a little bit' she thought as she sat down on the grass facing the magnificent view from the cliff. The brunette crossed her hands over her chest and sighed loudly

'Hm... the fall from here is quite far, i'll have to be careful'

Aika stood up and faced the large tree, she sighed once again

'Gosh, how will i find an apple in all that leafy madness?' Aika switched her face with a determined one.

Doing a few stretches and warm-ups, aika faced the tree looming before her. She then started to climb it, holding onto the thick bark of the old tree.

After the endless climbing, aika found a branch thick enough to hold her weight.

'Phew...' aika leaned back and enjoyed the breeze as well as the shade from the hot sun.

'wonder how gon is doing...' the girl closed her eyes and drifted off.

IT WAS NEARING NOON

Aika heard a shuffling above her, the brunette gave a grunt of annoyance, after a few seconds of silence, she heard the annoying shuffling again.

The girl pried her eyes open, a look that could send shivers up the spine settled at her face

'Ok. This is getting annoying now' she thought. The shuffling was once again heard, a little louder this time, this made aika sit up with the reasons along the lines of 'i should just kill this thing and go back to sleep' and 'if i don't kill it, or at least get rid of whatever the damn thing it is, it's going to get to me first.'

Her reasons seemed to be the only thing keeping her from the giant wave of lack of sleep and accidentally slipping and falling to her inevitable doom. The girl stood up with the support of the branch above her

The brunette looked around for any signs of a living being, she waited for the shuffling once again but to no avail.

It was quite, a little too quiet for comfort, then she heard it;

'Above me'

The girl's head looked above her and there she saw it, a few branches ahead was a squirrel, it's little nose twitching and beady eyes looking at aika confused.

Squirrel over here tilted it's little head at aika's staring, the brunette raised a brow, a genuine act of curiosity as to what the small mammal will do next.

However, the squirrel probably got creeped out because of her staring and scurried away. Aika gave the scurrying animal an unamused look

'How anticlimactic, well it is a squirrel so...'

Aika let herself relax for a bit and closed her eyes and sat down, after a few minutes she heard a squeak beside her

'Don't tell me it's another squirrel'

And as if fate hated her so, aika opened her eyes to find the furry little scandal observing her from a small branch across from hers.

'Well that's not creepy at all'

The brunette's yellow eyes squinted at the animal and after a few seconds, she deemed it not worthy of staring anymore and shifted her gaze at the leaves in-front of her.

The squirrel seemed bored of her and scurried back, aika however, noticed the squirrel moving and so she followed it with her eyes. The mammal passed by many branches until he was a little far up

Aika yawned and continued watching the furry. She then noticed a shining, round(sort of), red ball hanging in a branch where the squirrel now sits. The brunette perked up by this and squinted her eyes

'Yep, that's definitely it' The girl thought and she couldn't help but grin at her discovery.

'And all i have to do is make my way up there! ...with all the small branches that may or may not break...fun!'

Aika thought bitterly but took it as a challenge. Just as she readied her things, the girl thought of something quite amusing

'And to think that a squirrel helped me get into the hunters exam' she chuckled and leaped onto the next branch, she steadied herself by holding out her arms outwards, she sighed a small breath of relief but smiled nevertheless, but a sweat drop visible at the side of her cheek.

'One branch down...' she looked up to see five or more branches up ahead and sighed

'...Many more to go'
