Because I feel like there ain't enough for some of the characters I've seen on Netflix so far and I love SkekMal and was dismayed when they killed him off as I hoped he would come back next season but he dead. Plus, he was amazing, sexy, and BADASS
In this AU, Cinder won't be finding Emerald but rather the reader will and take her under his wing. He teaches her how to use her semblance more effectively, how to use it more strongly so she won't be getting as much headaches as she should, teach her how to survive more strongly, become a better pick-pocket, etc
