Emerald wondered where it all went wrong.... She kept her semblance up the whole time she was in that jewelry store, eyeing a specific ring that she could surely trade for some food to last her a few days at best. As soon as she grabbed it and left, somehow he figured out she stole it and called the police on her. How? How could her illusion have failed when she kept it up the whole time?! Did she let her hunger get the best of her?
Her chest heaved as she ran into an alleyway, prepping her hands against the wall trying to catch her breath. She just needed a moment to think, just THINK!
She suddenly gasped as hands grabbed her arms and pulled her backwards harshly, making her tumble onto the concrete as she fought back tears. She had been caught.... This was the end.... No one would care for a nobody.... She would rot in prison with no hopes of freedom, if she'd even survive the first week that is... She heard of violent, unstable criminals in jail which consisted of mostly men. If they were to see a girl in the place.... Well... She'd rather not think about it...
"She's here! I found her!" A man clad in a police outfit shouted from the alleyway as more came. There were at least 3 in total.
"Good work. Let's lock her up-" he was suddenly cut off by a 4th voice behind him. Emerald noticed it was... Deep and raspy with a growl in it?
All of them looked to who the assailant was and for some unknown reason, everyone was terrified of him even though they didn't know him! Emerald made out his outfit:
But what stood out the most was the skeletal mask covering his face showing only 1 eye which looked like honey mingled with the sun. All in all.... He looked almost beautiful in her eyes rather then frightening.
"T- this girl was caught stealing from a jewelry store. She stole a ring. We're here to put her in chains so she doesn't do it again." The policeman seemed to be very proud of it but the smile quickly faded when he noticed that the man neither didn't leave nor smile. Just that blank stare.
Then the man spoke "My daughter did no such a thing." The man walked forward to Emerald who shoved the policemen off her and much to her horror, he felt all around her patting her pockets, back pockets, her little satchel and even her top. She fought so hard to keep a straight face when the man showed his empty palms to the policeman who looked like they've been bamboozled. "Will there be anything else?"
The policemen looked embarrassed to say the least before shaking their heads and saying a quick "no" before getting out of there fast, the aura of the strange man screamed danger.
Emerald looked at her saviour who began to walk out of the alleyway before he spoke only one word "Come." before Emerald ran to catch up to him.
"T- thank you..." She only weakly managed to croak out as she had been starving but she was used of it. All she got in response was a "Hmm" from the man who wrapped his arm around her, his cloak draping over her small, malnourished form as a way to keep her safe.
A glint caught her closed eyelids as she cracked them open, showing the ring she stole was attached to his hip as she looked up at him and he merely gave her a little wink through his mask.
She merely smiled and laid her head against him...
