*Brodie's POV*
*5/29/94*
*8:01pm*
I bring my left hand up to look at my watch. It reads 8:01p.m.
"Where the fuck is he?" I ask myself aloud. Jake was suppost to be here thirty minutes ago.
I sigh heavily and put my hand back down on my car hood. Jake's always late, but never this late. He's usually ten or fifteen minutes late, never thirty.
*Charlie's POV*
I let out a deep breath while my foot taps vigorously away at the floor. Where the fuck is he?
"It's been thirty minutes," The client says abruptly. My eyes dart to him.
"Yeah, I know," I mumble, anxiously looking out the diner window to Brodie; who is checking her watch.
"The clock is ticking..."
My eyes quickly dart back to the client again.
"I. Know." I say in a frustrated tone, looking back out the window to Brodie. She leisurely looks around, her gaze eventually meeting mine.
"Where is he?" I mouth, bringing my hand up and tapping my watch. She shrugs in reponse.
"Agh, shit!" I mumble, sliding out of the booth.
"Where are you going?" The client asks as I begin to walk towards the door.
"Out," I respond dryly, not looking back.
*Brodie's POV*
I watch Charlie closely as he quickly gets up from the booth; speed-walking towards the diner door. He pushes the door open with force and an angry yet worried expression washes over his face.
"Where the fuck is he, Brodie?!" Charlie asks, throwing his arms in the air like a madman.
"You're asking me that like I'm supposed to know," I respond calmly.
"Well he is your cousin." He leans against my car and looks towards the client; who is casually smoking a cigar. That reminds me...
"So?" I ask as I take a cigarette pack from my pant pocket. Charlie sees this and takes out his lighter while I take a cigarette from the pack.
"B, I can't sit in awkward silence with that dude for another thirty minutes," He says quietly, even though no one is out here to hear us. He lights my cigarette and I take a few drags before responding.
"You don't have to."
"Really?" He asks enthusiastically, his eyes lighting up.
"Yeah, you can take him to the office and suck his dick!"
I erupt in laughter, but Charlie isn't amused.
"Oh, fuck off!" He says defensively. "Is this cause I haven't had a girlfriend yet? Cause you haven't exactly been mingling yourself."
"Yeah, but nobody cares about me cause I'm not the popular jock here," I snap back, my laughter going as quick as it came. I take a quick drag then pass it to Charlie.
We continue to smoke and pass the cigarette back and forth, watching the occasional car or semi pass by. Eventually, a single headlight appears in the distance, accompanied by the hum of a motorcycle. Charlie and I watch the motor vehicle attentively as it begins to slow down; turning into the diner's gravel parking lot. The motorcycle pulls up right in front of us to reveal a slim but somewhat muscular tall, brown haired boy.
"Where the hell have you been?" Charlie asks in a frustrated tone, stepping away from my car and throwing his arms in the air again.
"And when did you get a motorcycle?" I ask, hopping off of the hood with the cigarette hanging from my mouth.
"I stole it." Jake smiles proudly at his action while Charlie places his hands on his hip like a disappointed mother would.
"Why the hell would you steal a motorcycle?" Charlie asks, his voice laced with anger and confusion.
"Well, Brodie paged me, like, an hour ago and I was at Zoey's-"
"Of course you were."
"What do you mean 'of course you were?'"
"C'mon Jake, we all know you and Zoey got a thing going."
"No we don't!"
"She told me you two were 'friends with benefits,'" I interject, shifting all my weight onto my right leg.
"I thought you two weren't friends anymore?"
"We're not, but that doesn't mean we don't catch up every once in awhile."
"I thought you two hated each other?" Charlie asks.
"Yeah..." Jake mumbles, furrowing his brows. I take a quick drag of the cigarette while looking at them both.
"Hey, when did this become about me, huh?" I grin nervously, slightly shrugging my shoudlers. "Let's just get in there and stop wasting time, okay?"
"Okay," They agree in unison.
Jake climbs off of the stolen motorcycle while I approach them. I take the cigarette out of my mouth and place my arms around their shoulders.
"Listen you guys," I say quietly while leading them towards the entrance. "This guy definitely has something good for us."
"How can you tell?" Charlie asks out of curiosity.
"Well..."
I let go of them and grab the door handle; holding the door open and motioning for them to enter.
"This is the first adult client who doesn't want drugs, but for us to do a job."
Charlie nods slowly in reluctant approval and enters the diner while Jake stays behind.
"This could go either really badly or really well," He warns.
"You think I don't know that? Let's just hope it goes the second way."
I give him a reassuring grin and motion for him to enter once again. He grins back and obeys, entering the building with me trailing right behind him.
