Kara's POV

*

Kara pretended not to notice the young master's eyes on her as she smiled while everyone scooted closer to each other to make way for him as he came to stand right in the middle, beside the celebrant.

Shrugging, she looked around at the family she had grown up with, the Alfonsis, Adrian and her mama. Kara wished her dad was there to see what a big girl she'd become but she also knew he would be watching her from up there.

Everyone present there had been very supportive and loving since the very beginning. They never treated her or her mother like house helps throughout their stay with them, even till the time when young master built his own mansion and he had them move in with him because he loved her Mama's cooking so much.

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you Kara... Happy birthday to you." They all sang in their different voices, making Kara's eyes glint with unshed tears as warmth filled her heart even though the men were singing slightly off key.

She didn't mind.

They didn't bother singing about her age since there was no need and after they'd wished her many happy returns of the day, everyone clapped in bliss.

Kara stepped closer and everyone urged her to make a wish before the cutting the cake. Especially Adrian.

Adrian was more eager to eat the cake than Kara, the celebrant.

"I wish that I'll and my loved ones will be happy and enter into a loving relationship with the best man on Earth soon." Kara whispered so low that no one could hear her.

She opened her eyes and saw everyone staring at her with a certain expression in their eyes. Expression akin to sadness. Her Mama had her palms on her chest and Adrian's sad expression slowly turned into a smirk when Kara frowned at her.

"What?" Kara shrugged. She was a hundred percent sure that none of them could've heard what she said since she'd whispered it.

Maybe they were wishing her dad was there too. Maybe they felt his absence like Kara did.

"Let's cut the cake!" Adrian hollered and quickly walked over to stand beside Kara, clapping giddily and appearing unlike her previously moody self, which Kara was glad for.

"Okay. We'll spell her name and then we'll cut the cake. Are you ready?" She asked Kara. Kara nodded with a smile. Adrian's giddiness was rubbing off on her.

"K."

"A."

"R."

"A."

And she cut the cake.

"Kara!" They all clapped again.

Kara delightedly admitted that celebrating her birthday this way wasn't much, but it was far better than what she had planned for herself, which was getting wasted at a night club.

Adrian cut her a slice and started dicing the cake into small portions and putting them on a tray so she'd pass around to everyone.

Slowly, everyone started approaching Kara and giving her warm hugs. Giuliano might've squeezed her too much in a way that made her gasp.

"Giuliano, you're squeezi-" Kara was cut off by a growl that resonated around the whole house, sending chills down her spine as she stiffened. It was low but threatening. She found herself lowering her head as confusion swirled in her mind for a few seconds.
