All Along

Prologue

Chapter 1
SIX YEARS AGO

"Okay guess what!" A teenage Mia Mensa said to her best friend Khalid Everton.

"What?" Khalid asked bored out of his mind as he tried to finish cooking a meal for his parents. His parents wanted him to study something to do with science whilst Khalid wanted to work on his cooking and go pro and so he was hoping his skills would help persuade his parents. Khalid was always known to be excellent at cooking so Mia would always make a surprise appearance any time Khalid was making his famous dishes.

The two were going off to college in a couple months, both of them waiting on their results. Mia had been hoping to go far far away to study journalism whilst Khalid wanted to stay close to home and go to a culinary school in town. His decision to stay was based off his father's ongoing health condition so he decided to stay close to home.  Both best friends wanted to be in each others company for as long as they could before they were separated. And well Khalid's food was an added bonus for Mia.

"Well Jonah your friend Jonah asked me out to some party tonight," Mia mentioned and Khalid who knew Jonah who was actually quite good friends with Jonah, had no idea what Jonah was playing at.

"And I suppose you're considering going?"

"Well since I know you'll be going since he's like one of your closest friends apart from me of course and Isaac... I know that you'd definitely be attending so I could just tag along with you?" Mia stated but it came out as more of a question.

"Yes Jonah is my friend but you're also my best friend which is why I'm asking you this question are you a crazy person?" Khalid snapped putting his spoon down that he was using to fill the fajitas.

"Why would I be mad?"

"Because you know exactly why Jonah is inviting you to this party and you're still considering going?"

"No I don't actually know why he's inviting me? Please do enlighten me..."

"Uh.. well.. let me see... to get into your pants dumbass,"

"Hey! He's your friend shouldn't you be giving him a bit more credit!"

"Well I gave you credit when I thought you were smart enough not to fall for his tricks and look were that brought us!"

"I swear if you don't shut up," Mia said lunging for him and grabbing his ear. He put his hands up in a surrender position and after a couple seconds she let him go.

"You're my best friend and I know how Jonah works, I just don't want to see you get hurt," Khalid said continuing to dice his ingredients, he didn't want to look up at Mia and show he was affected by this.

"How many years have you known me for?  Since when did I let any guy take advantage or hurt me?" Mia questioned and Khalid couldn't help but agree since the answer to her question was never. Mia had been in relationships and so had Khalid but none of them ever lasted long. Sometimes the reason for that was their very own friendship.

"Fine yeah you have a point, but Jonah is good at what he does, whatever you do do not fall into that trap," Khalid explained very seriously. He had seen girls cry and beg for Jonah's attention and it wasn't pretty.

"I definitely won't be falling into any traps Khal," Mia said snatching a pepper from the chopping board ensuing Khalid to scold her.

"Good keep it that way," He replied back to her whilst snatching the pepper from her hand before she could eat it.

"You little..." Mia scolded him back about to lunge at him again.

"So I'm guessing that's only three fajitas, me, my Mom and Dad," Khalid played and Mia realised that he was cooking and that she had to obey him at least until the meal was in her stomach.
