*AU where Piers survived and you visit him in hospital*

It's been a long week. A long week since you, Captain Redfield and Piers escaped from the underwater research complex. You and the Cap were bruised and bloodied but that was all; Piers, on the other hand, suffered serious injuries.

What you saw Piers do that day was nothing short of heroic. The three of you were battling against Haos: some kind of giant, aquatic squid B.O.W and you remember Piers' arm being crushed during the conflict. You were too far away to do anything but still managed to cry out as Piers injected himself with the nearby C-Virus vial in order to save Chris who had been caught. God, it was horrible. His injured arm mutated into what looked like a fleshy trident and gave off waves of bio-electricity. He used the electricity to kill the creature...and save you. It was incredible to watch but it killed you to see Piers in so much pain.

The two of you are....close to say the least. Ever since Captain Redfield scouted you out, you both took a liking to eachother. Piers who was a sniper and you: an expert markswoman. You quickly became not only friends but partners. It was a dream working together, everything flowed and you had total trust in eachother during every mission. There's always been an attraction between you two, no doubt about it; but, something stopped you from being together. Truth be told, you felt something for Piers, something strong. The only thing holding you back was the that you didn't want to be with him only to see him die in battle. That's why the fight against Haos was so unbearable at times.

Piers was taken to a special hospital the moment you touched shore, his arm was amputated straight away. An emergency vaccine was created with Jake Muller's blood and stabilised the virus within Piers. Ever since, he's been in and out of a coma and visitors have been banned until it's certain that the virus is killed.

This morning, you received a call from one of the specialists saying that Piers is fully conscious but can only expect one visitor of his choosing. He chose you. You informed the Captain straight away and left for the hospital the minute you were able. You're currently stood outside the door to his isolated ward, slightly scared to see how Piers looks. It doesn't particularly matter but it still worries you, what if he's unrecognisable? What if he's still in pain? You shake your head and twist the handle of the door, quickly gathering your composure.

You stand in the doorway and stare as it swings open, hands firmly placed at your side. Piers is in bed with large, white pillows propped up behind his head. There's a thick bandage wrapped around what's left of his arm which is just the nub of his shoulder. It looks clean which makes you relax - no risk of further infection. His face is scarred around the left eye which has also bandaged across. Red marks create a lightning pattern across his face and make him look like some kind of superhero - in your eyes, he is one. The duvet is up to his torso which is covered by a plain hospital gown. You smile at his trademark scarf that has been set neatly at the end of the bed. There's a small table next to him set with a jug of water, a glass filled halfway and a whole array of pills probably for pain. They make you grimace a little.

Piers' eyes are closed but you can tell he's awake since there's a faint smile on his face.

You creep forwards into the bright light of the room and take a breath before talking.

"Hey," You call out tentatively and edge towards the visitor's chair next to the bed.

"(y/n)," He replies softly, eyes fluttering open. They quickly become alert and his smile broadens, "you made it,"

"Of course I did," You take a seat and look at Piers.

There's a moment as you both look at eachother. His hair is still the same with it's trademark front spike. His visible eye is still an attractive hazel that twinkles prettily. The beams of sunlight shining through the blinds cause his eye to sparkle even more, making them a honey colour. All the things you like about Piers have remained the same which makes you happy. His eyebrows crease together as your gaze flickers between his bandaged eye and shoulder.

"I'm okay," he states with a faint smile, "the doctors have told me that I'm set to have a metallic arm and maybe an eyepatch,"

"Going for a robot pirate look? Nice," Piers chuckles softly at your attempt to lighten the mood.

"Yeah well, I think being one-sighted is a fair trade for a stronger arm," He cocks his head towards his bandaged stub.

"True," you bite your lip and look Piers in the eye, "Piers, I- thank you, what you did for us and for the BSAA was so so brave,"

He pauses and looks down, as if in thought. You feel a patch of warmth as his fingers reach across and intertwine with yours.

"I'll do whatever it takes if it means a better future, and if it means a future with you in it," he squeezes your hand and looks up at you.

A blush creeps across your face but not out of embarrassment, out of happiness and pride for your comrade. Your eyes become glossy and blurred as you press your lips against the back of his hand.

"I'll never leave you Piers, I made that promise when we first became partners and you - you promised the same too," Tears flow from your eyes and down your cheeks; you refuse to let them get the better of you and keep your expression strong.

"I'm here," he raises his hand to your cheek and brushes a tear away, "I'm not dead and I won't die if that's what you're saying,"

You smile and wipe your face dry but it doesn't stop your eyes from burning. If Piers died then you have no idea what you'd do. It was no secret that he came close to going - too close, you'd never been so terrified in your life. There's a heat in your chest as a rush of emotion washes over you. You lean down from the chair and bury your head in Piers' neck to which he responds by placing his hand on your back.

Tilting your head up, you stare at Piers in the light. It shines over his beaming face and accentuates all of his new scars. In this moment, he looks like a wounded angel: bandaged and bruised...but glowing.

Something clicks inside and you rise to press a soft kiss on Piers' lips before moving away quickly. There's a pause as you freeze, elevated slightly above him and studying his face. He doesn't look shocked or surprised, in fact, he looks peaceful. Piers presses a gentle kiss to your forehead and grips your hand tightly. Shifting your body from the chair to the bed, you lie next to him with your head nuzzled against his chest.

"Promise you won't die on me," you whisper and close your eyes.

"I promise."
