They had been buried within the Tomb of the Kings. The White Guardians stood their eternal watch over them. As the rain trickled over the stone statues of the queens and kings, I watched their stone faces. Eyes closed. Hands resting in prayer. Silent and asleep. Forever in Death. Now we placed two white stone coffins into the cold silent earth. The voice of the old priest filled my ears.
"We see them today. We see them in death. Rest forever. Forever in Life, and in Death..."
The first clod of earth thudded upon the stone sarcophaguses. They were adorned in the Royal robes of Eden. Eyes closed and hands pressed together. Silent, asleep, forever gone from our faces.
Jezreel squeezed my shoulder and drew me close. I could feel his heart. It beat within his body. Alive.
The old caretaker of the Tombs smacked the rounded earth twice, locking the sarcophaguses inside the earth. Forever. I blinked, suddenly feeling the freezing coldness soaking into my cloak and robes.
"Come away, Elaena. Come away from here."
Within the Garden of Eden stood the Tomb of the Kings, Jezreel and I.
I looked down onto the faces of the statues that were now erected before the graves. King Arron of Eden and Queen Ilesa of Eden. Their faces were of stone. Father was draped in robes and his head was set with the crown of Eden. A glittering crown of brushed silver and green emeralds shaped as leaves winked at me. Mother was adorned in robes and her crown rested upon her head, a wreath of twisted silver and set with emerald leaves.
The sky above swirled and a howling wind filled my ears. A black ash twisted around me.
I closed my eyes. The blackness of death swallowed me and I landed within the palace of Eden.
Someone had screamed. I stared at their bodies. The king's face was white. Blood flowed in a waterfall from his slit throat. The queen's body was opened of wounds. Blood soaked over her dress and coated her hands. She opened them to me. Her delicate fingers brushed over my face. Over my scars. She opened her mouth. A never-ending scream filled the room.
