It was hot.

No, no.

It was scorching out. Zayn Malik was stretched out on his porch and staring immensely at the sun, glaring as if glaring would make the sun disappear. He was on the porch because he was currently waiting for his best lads to arrive and to do something. It's their sixth day of the summer and they had nothing done. They didn't know what to do. They spent the first two days letting summer sink in, going to parties and having pure fun. Then the third day came and things started winding down until now, almost a week in and they had nothing to do. The county fair was barely making it's way through the town. Zayn squinted at the distance and noticed Harry Styles, one of his best friends, walking towards him, smiling. Zayn groaned when he noticed that Harry had no water. The heat hit him like a pair of knives repeatedly stabbing his body. He closed his eyes and immediately grabbed the collar of his shirt and started pulling it, glad it was cut from the sides. It didn't help that it was black.

"Damn this heat, aye?" Harry said as he plopped down next to his best friend. Harry Styles is one of the most eccentric besides Louis. Zayn nodded in agreement and fanned himself, squinting at Harry.

"Yeah lad. What exactly did Louis have in mind that he made everyone meet at my house?" Zayn asked as he wiped his brow with his clammy hands. Harry blew out a breath and shrugged, squinting down the intersection where all of their houses connected. Zayn lived on Rose St, the main street. Then on the right was Fields ave, the street Harry lived on right next to Niall. Across was Vincent St where Louis and Liam lived. Zayn was alone in the cul-de-sac and he didn't mind it since he knew the lads were not that far away.  Zayn groaned and then jumped up with happiness when he noticed Niall with a gallon of water. He ran to him jokingly and held him.

"Nialler!" He squealed as they hugged, Zayn lifting him and twirling him in the air. Niall clung on and laughed. Once Zayn set him down, he snatched the gallon and chugged. Niall pouted.

"That's what you wanted me for," he laughed out as Harry ran to them.

"Give me some!" Harry complained as he took the gallon. Zayn felt better, refreshed. Now he was ready to the afternoon. He watched as Louis and Liam came charging towards Niall and Harry, ready to steal the water.

If you were a mere observer, you can see that it looked absolutely ridiculous what was happening. Louis was practically smack next to Liam, gaping his mouth to get at least a drop of water while Liam shifted the opening to the center of both their lips. Zayn stood off to the side, laughing as he sat down. He noticed Harry and Niall fidgeting before flopping down next to Zayn.

"Alright lads, enough already!" He called out as both boys turned to look at him. Louis pouted when the water finished and walked towards Zayn.

"Alright, so what are we here for?" Liam asked as he sat between Zayn's legs, fanning himself.

Louis smirked and pulled out a tiny camera, silver and gleaming proudly at them. "So after watching Glee yesterday, it got me thinking: Louis, we need to do something! To be honest lads, I don't want to sit in me couch anymore and just wait for things to happen. And then I thought, well what are memories?"

Zayn raised an eyebrow, intrigued as Niall and Harry nodded along. Liam's eyes narrowed as they always did when he was thinking. Louis' eyes twinkled with excitement as he noticed he held their attention and curiosity.

"Go on lad! Don't keep us at a cliff hanger!" Liam urged as he glared at the camera.

"I was getting to that impatient! Anyways, so I was thinking what if we document our summer?"

"Louis, mate, that sounds like a good plan but we're always together," Harry explained as he pulled off his shirt, ignoring the stares. He cocked his head at Louis.

Louis blew an exasperated breath. "Look! That's not true! Besides, I got a job at the pharmacy!"

Niall nodded in agreement and smacked Harry upside the head. "I have to work at the carnival, butt head."

Harry rubbed the back of his head, grumbling at himself as Louis smiled at the support from Niall. Liam gestured for Louis to go on.

Louis took a deep breath and swept his hair out of his eyes.

"Anyways, I was thinking about a boy a day, each boy has it one day and then they take a picture of the most amazing thing they've seen. Obviously we're gonna need to label who's who, but I think we can just label it." Louis smiled triumphantly as he pulled out a scrapbook, entirely black and leather bound. He smiled at them.

"Today, I've decided it goes to Zayn and that the first picture all of us have to take is a selfie," Louis finished as he tossed the little silver gleaming camera at Zayn. Zayn fumbled before he grabbed it, solidly holding it. He noticed it was a quick camera, ones that were on display at Wal-Mart but weren't the top quality cameras. He squinted at it and turned it to himself. He wasn't so sure how he felt about the camera, but he knew that he'd adjust and that it was just a summer project, somthing for them to do. He glanced back at Louis.

"Well then mates, let the adventure begin."

Zayn laid down on his lawn, literally exhausted. He never knew that his power would blow out. He glanced around at his neighbors and noticed that everyone was sitting outside on their porches talking to one another and fanning themselves, waiting for their little air conditioners to turn back on for them to blast cold air.

Zayn let out a breath and extended his arms above his head, loving how his moist grass felt after it was freshly cut. His mother had made him do it before she left and it was a nightmare. He still had to wait for his sister and Waliyha. He almost regretted it. Waliyha was typically not the one to actually make it on time. He sighed as he noticed Safaa sit down next to him.

"So, what exactly are you getting at, sitting on the floor?" She asked as she pulled the wrapper off her popsicle. Safaa brushed her brown hair out of her eyes. For a ten year old, Safaa carries herself well, Zayn had to admit. She's the type of person that never let anyone down no matter the situation. She got things done the first time and she didn't tolerate rudeness. Zayn winked at her.

"I achieve a lot actually," he said smugly as he stared at the girl from the house across from him. Safaa followed his stare and shook her head.

"You're really gonna stare at Waliyha's best friend?" Safaa asked, her lips a bright purple from the popsicle. Zayn did a double take. No way was she Waliyha's best friend. If they were talking about the same person, then they were seeing different people. Waliyha's best friend's name was Honor if Zayn remembered correctly.  He remembered her being a awkward girl but looking at her now, puberty did her good. Her tangled curly hair, which he often referred to as a bird's nest, was now incredibly long and hit almost the middle of her back, long and untangled. He sighed and looked at the camera, remembering Louis' words. He looked into the camera and smiled, snapping the picture and capturing the mischievous twinkle in his eye.
