"Hey was someone shouting in the hallway?" Scar asked as I set the crate down in front of us. I instructed Matt to go pass some pamphlets out to everyone who was already seated while we gave ones to guests still walking in.
"Yeah, Nick cornered me and shouted at me," I shrugged giving a couple a smile and a pamphlet.
"Wait what? Desi!" Scar whined. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," I said. Which I was. It could have been worse if not for Drew walking by. I would have to find time later to get him something nice to thank him again. "He'supin Rodgers's office right now probably getting ripped a new one."
"Do you need water or to go take a break? I can handle it if you need a minute or more," she eyed me wearily.
"I promise I am actually okay. I'm just glad to be done with him and thankful I saw his true colors now rather than later." I explained the rest of the story to her between guests. She tried her best to hide her expressions which I couldn't help but laugh and make fun of.
For the next thirty minutes, we continued the same process until our theatre was mostly full of familiar faces and some not so familiar. There was one movie first before Drew's. I was surprised he was going so early.
"Hello Everyone!" I clapped trying to gather everyone's attention.
"Welcome to this year's annual Spring Film Festival!" Scarlett announced. We all joined in on clapping and cheering. Our town loved the film festival just as much as we hated working it. But we continued to smile through the pain nonetheless.
"If you check your pamphlets passed out prior to the show you will see the list of films we have lined up for you this evening," I instructed.
"If you continue to come tomorrow and Sunday we will have new ones printed for the final categories," Scarlett added.
"Which tomorrow night after the last film, you can vote for your final favorites to be shown in the finals on Sunday," I smiled. We went back and forth discussing the rules and requirements for the finals and how the winner would be announced.
"A reminder please stay off your phones."
"Have your snacks ready."
"There will be intermissions between each film for more refills, snacks, or restroom breaks."
"And finally, sit back relax and give a hand to the amazing students and all their hard work to make this year's Film Festival a reality," I beamed searching the crowd for the familiar stormy eyes. He gave me a slight wink that couldn't help but send a rush of warmth to my cheeks.
During the first film, we left Matt in the theatre and checked in on him regularly. We had to go back and forth between every theatre to make sure things were okay. We check on the projection manager to see if she needed any help.
I even met with Rodgers and wrote down a statement and discussed with him what had happened. He didn't mention anything about Nick or if he was downstairs, but when I met Scarlett back in the theatre I hadn't seen Nick anywhere downstairs.
We sent Matt to go get some water and take a break while we watched the next movie. It was so conveniently Drew'smovie. I was a little excited to see what he put together. He kept it pretty private since I filmed with him on the last day.
Scarlett let out a little squeal of excitement and I joined in on her shimmy as we stood in the walkway together. There was no room to sit, but we were supposed to stand anyways. Not that I minded. I liked that we were hidden a little bit.
