Warped Away: A Kirby Story

Underground City Part 1

The warp star explodes into a mighty fireball as Kenny and Nathan barely avoid getting sent flying, and the explosion has uncovered a large tunnel that goes under what appears to be lethal plant life up ahead.

"No choice but to head down I guess." Nathan says as he and Kenny slide down the tunnel. It's a long drop down but eventually the two end up in what appears to be an entire city of stone and dirt built underground, and the many residents there have modified either their weapons or their bodies to thrive in this subterranean environment.

"Whoa... This place is cool..." Kenny chuckles as he and Nathan look around. That's when they realize that they have many eyes trained on them, and they bring out their weapons.

"They don't seem to think us as cool though..." Nathan grumbles as many waddle dees emerge, wielding monk's spades, and a squad of waddle doos also emerges, ready to attack.

"It's those aliens! Get them!" The leading waddle doo shouts before everyone in the city launches a crazed assault!

"It's a zerg rush! Heads up!" Nathan shouts as he and Kenny leap back to avoid the mass of enemies rushing at them. Kenny climbs the walls and manages to get a good vantage point before sniping some of the enemies while Nathan gets up close and starts slicing and dicing the waddle squad up. "Hey! Aren't you going to get your sword out?"

"I don't have the armor that you have! I'd sooner get mauled!" Kenny shouts as he continues sniping.

"Fair enough." Nathan mumbles to himself as he charges forth and evades the many blades going for his neck, and the waddle doos are too busy focusing on Kenny to try and attack Nathan.

"Come on! You guys couldn't hit the side of a barn if you tried!" Kenny taunts, but he quickly eats crow as the leader of the waddle doo squad fires off an explosive energy blast and manages to blast Kenny off of the wall! "OOF! Okay now that does it!" He shouts as he lands on his feet and brings out his sword, the one that Meta Knight allowed him to unearth earlier, and he charges forth, surprising the squad of waddle doos as they create their energy whips and engage him in close combat.

"These guys can't hold out forever! Keep pushing on!" One of the waddle doos shouts, but his battle cry falls on deaf ears as many of the waddle dees are getting slain by Nathan's sheer experience and flaming blade. One of the waddle doos does manage to smash Kenny's sword though, forcing him to rely on his fists, and with the energy whips cracking his way Kenny is once again forced to use his bow and arrows to hit them from a distance. With the waddle dees dealt with though Nathan has free reign to charge at the squad and dice them up while they are still occupied, and it's not long before the city is silent, and Kenny and Nathan catch their breath with what apples they still have left.

"That was exhausting!" Kenny says.

"You're one to talk, I had to deal with all of those waddle dees up close! I'm just glad my sword arm isn't cramping up!" Nathan replies.

"All right whatever, let's just keep on going." Kenny says as the two continue further into the underground city. Thanks to them taking out what was practically the entire population the trip through the city was a fairly quiet one, and the only other beings they encounter are hard working bugzys that are too occupied with future construction to even engage the duo in combat. Those that do quickly meet Nathan's blade, and then they notice something else.

"Huh? What's this?" Nathan mumbles as he walks over to what appears to be a ladder leading up somewhere. "What was the point of this city then?"

"I think it was just for that attack honestly." Kenny replies. "I think there's something waiting for us just up this ladder, so get ready."

"I'm always ready." Nathan says. "You wanna climb first?"

"How about you?" Kenny asks.

"All right, but don't blame me if you're the first one to get chased by whatever's up there." Nathan replies as he starts climbing up the ladder.
