Lorenzo's pov,

I kept wondering around the house aimlessly. That is what I have been doing these months as Lucas would rarely come home. I haven't heard from Leo and Lambert for a week now. Last they came was to inform the works they did.

Suddenly the door opens, and Lucas enters our house. He looks at me and gets stunned in his spot. I widen my eyebrows, waiting for him for an explanation.

These days Lucas behaviour after looking at me was this only. That's why this wasn't new for me now. I knew he wants to say something to me but doesn't have the courage to.

We both look at each other, waiting for each other to start the conversation but deep down I also know Lucas will avoid speaking to me and would flee into his room just like how he's been doing.

But it didn't happen today. My breath hitches, in surprise, as he comes a little forward and stands in front of me. Without looking at me, he shrugs his shoulders and looks at the ground all the time.

After a lengthy pause, he clears his throat and looks into my eyes, "Lorenzo, I don't know how to say this to you. Please listen to me carefully. I love Eva and me... I... I want to marry Eva."

My eyes widen at his announcement. That was against the rulers! We can't just forget that we are on a deadly mission where one misstep or our originality gets leaked would lead us to death on the spot by our enemies.

I have no offence that Lucas and Eva adore each other nor at they are getting married, but this would risk Eva's life. The Because of Eva, I am alive today, and I can't take a chance to drag her into this messy life with Lucas.

What if any enemy hurts her to reach us?

No, I can't let this happen. I have to protect my mates and Eva.

"ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND LUCAS?" I yell at him angrily.

I didn't know my voice went this loud that soon Leo and Lambert enter the house.

I saw the shock in their faces as they look at us. Why wouldn't they get surprised? I never scolded this loudly to Lucas. He was my best friend and like a brother to me.

I felt guilty after scolding him, I should have taken this matter calmly but I couldn't after thinking misfortune.

"You know what Lorenzo? I never wanted to say you this, but Eva insisted me to speak to you before getting married," In the back Leo and Lambert gasps together at Lucas's words "I knew you would never understand us. I'm leaving you alone here, do whatever you want. Goodbye Mr Lorenzo Brooks"

Saying so, Lucas storms outside the house and shuts the door behind him with a bang. A lump forms in my throat. My heart becomes heavy. I curl my toes inside my shoes. I look away from my two mates who stood in front of me gazing at me sympathetically. I blink my eyes rapidly, so they don't see my tears.

"Lorenzo?" Leo asks and slowly comes towards me, but I couldn't control my tears even after blinking my eyes rapidly.

With a blur surrounding, I run towards my room and shut the door behind me, ignoring Leo and Lambert. I never meant to say what I said.

I cared for them, that's why I couldn't tolerate their actions. I sit on the edge of the bed.

Leo and Lambert both start knocking on the door and calling for me, but I don't speak to anyone. After a few minutes, I hear Lambert saying "Let's leave him alone, he needs time and let us go check on Lucas."

All I hear is silence, which makes me feel lonelier. Tears keep falling and my shoulders pains. I felt exhausted.

The crackling of branches outside the window because of wind brings me out of my dilemma. I wipe my tears and sulk. I look out only to find the crow standing on branches looking at me. I should have never come here, the day I stepped my foot here, my life changed to worse.
