A Sit In The Park

The air outside was wet and cold, even so Dan knew he didn’t want to turn back, he just wanted to get away from that apartment as quickly as possible. He didn’t know where he was going however, he was just letting his feet take control of his path. Dan could feel his chest starting to burn inside his stomach and he suddenly regretted running down the long flight of stairs it really had just burned up most of his energy. I need to work out more he thought then he chuckled softly to himself, like that was ever going to happen.

Before he knew it he had arrived at the Local Park. It was dark or it would have been had it not been for the lampposts that had been strategically placed around the outer edges of the park to provide enough light to see inside of it. Dan decided he needed to sit down so he walked through the parks gates and over to one of the swings, plopping himself down inside it carelessly.

It took Dan a moment but then he suddenly remembered the reason he was out here in the first place.

And that reason was Phil.

For two years they had lived together and nothing like this had ever happened. Two years. But as soon as this so called Anna girl shows up everything starts to feel like it was about to fall apart.

And Dan had no idea as to why. No that was a lie.

His feelings towards Phil were…. Well he defiantly loved Phil as friend, he knew that much. But did he feel something more? No, he couldn’t be feeling anything more. It would be ridiculous if he did.

And yet he was sitting here at 5:30pm on the swing set of a park. He had stormed out of their apartment for a reason. Dan sighed and looked down at his feet. He needed to figure out his feelings and quickly.

“You okay?”

Dan looked up almost instantly. “What?”

A girl around 5’10 with long beautiful red hair stood in front of him. She wore a sweater and a pair of black leggings.

She giggled. “I asked you if you were okay…. So are you? Because you defiantly don’t look okay to me.”

“Then why did you ask?” Dan retorted.

“Well there’s no need to be rude” The girl shot back. Then a looked crossed her face one that looked like a mix between pity and sorrow.

“Look, I’m sorry. I’ve just had a rough day. I know it’s no excuse.”

Dan chuckled slightly at her comment. “You think your days been rough?”

“Yes. Actually it has been very rough. And by the sound of it I take it yours hasn’t been very successful either.” The girl then plopped herself down in the swing next to Dan. “I’m Amy by the way.”

“Dan.” Dan replied.

“It’s nice to meet you Dan.”

“Likewise.” Dan replied a bit too stiffly. It wasn’t that he hated the girl sitting next to him, in fact he kinda liked her. She seemed nice. He just wasn’t in the best of moods.

“I come here often, you know. To get away from my life. To escape.”

“You do?” Dan asked he was curious now and he didn’t want to keep coming off as rude or upset.

Amy looked down her feet and started to pick at underneath her fingernails. “Yeah. My life… it’s not what you would call a perfect life. Though what is a perfect life?” She smirked slightly and Dan gave her a soft reassuring smile. “But to some people it seems that way, but those who think that... well those people only see me… they don’t see the story behind me and what I have to deal with on a daily basis.”
