Sirius Black was just 11 years old when he started High School.

Although, that was normal for the children in England. They started nursery at age three, left primary at age eleven and started high school at age eleven.

It was September 1st and Sirius was on his way to his boarding school. It actually wasn't too far from where he lived, he just had to get a train to get there. Everyone got on the train and then it took about a day to actually get to the school. He was walking with his parents and his little brother, Regulus, to the train station. Sirius and Regulus talked excitedly, Regulus, was, of course, jealous of his brother going to high school already. Sure, he was only a year younger then Sirius, but he would be spending a whole year in the Black house with only his parents, he wouldn't have his brother to play with anymore. Sirius waved at his parents as he boarded the train, heaving his heavy trunk onto it. He dragged it along, trying to find an empty carriage. He ended up finding one at the very end of the train and went inside. He looked around and somehow managed to lift up his trunk onto one of the racks on top before sitting down by the window.

He stared out of it for a bit before he heard the compartment door slide open. There, he saw, was a boy with messy black hair that stood up in all directions and brown eyes. He stared at Sirius for a minute before grinning wildly. "Hey, can I sit 'ere?" The boy asked.
Sirius grinned back. "Why not?"

The boy sat in front of Sirius and introduced himself as James Potter. They talked for a while (mainly about their favourite bands and hobbies) before another boy came into the compartment, his face flushing red when he saw the two. "Er- I'm sorry- I'll go-"
"Wait- it's fine- you can stay here-" Sirius grinned. The boy sighed and thanked Sirius, taking a seat next to him. He said his name was Remus Lupin and he was happy to meet to two. He smiled and pushed his trunk onto the rack after getting a book out of it, he sat next to Sirius and began reading.

Sirius examined the boy carefully. He had sandy brown hair that was very curly; it looked fluffy, Sirius wanted to feel it and run his hands through it, but he thought it would be weird. He also noticed the boy's light brown eyes. They almost reminded him of honey. The boy was tall and skinny, quite lanky honestly. Sirius loved everything about the boy and couldn't keep his eyes off him. He could almost feel James' smirk as he watched Sirius take in Remus.

Sirius and James talked the whole way to their school, Remus joining in occasionally, although he was mainly focused on his book. When a lady with a trolley came offering sweets, James and Sirius didn't hesitate to get one of everything off it.

The train soon stopped at the station and the students got off the train. They looked around; it was raining quite heavily. Sirius hastily opened his trunk before getting off and took out a hoodie, putting it on and pulling the hood up. Everyone else seemed to just be using their trunks as umbrellas. Sirius, Remus and James followed everyone else, who seemed to be going to horse-drawn carriages. Remus, James and Sirius got in their own carriage and talked the whole way.

Remus seemed to be warming up to them, however, James and Sirius seemed to be the best of friends the moment they started talking.
'It's weird how that happens, isn't it? Some people click right away while some hate each other for all of eternity.' Remus thought to himself, smiling at the two boys he guessed he'd be hanging around for the rest of his school life.

The carriages soon got the the school, which, to Sirius' surprise, was a whole castle. It was so big, he'd never seen anything like it. They walked inside and, wow, it seemed so much bigger inside.
Everyone seemed so excited to finally be there, they hardly took in the inside as they were lead by a teacher who introduced herself as Professor Mcgonagall. She lead them all to a giant hall. The walls were so high and the roof was made of glass so polished you could hardly even tell there was anything there. There were five tables arranged inside, with one on top of a podium at the very end. The staff table.
Mcgonagall lead the first-years towards the podium and stood on it herself. "I will give you your entrance test results and, depending on what it says on it, will be what house you will be in for the rest of your time at this school. There are four houses. Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Your house will be like your home. Any rule-breaking will result in points being taken from your house, while any accomplishments will gain them. The points are like a competition, at the end of every year the house cup will be given out to the house with the most points."

Sirius took a moment to take it all in. He had to be in Slytherin, his whole family had been. But, honestly, he was hoping for Gryffindor. James said his family had been in Gryffindor and so had Remus' dad, he didn't want to be separated.
Or hated by his friends.
He knew the Gryffindors had a mutual hate for the Slytherins, but he never exactly knew why. They just never really got along.

Mcgonagall started calling names out.
Sirius was nervous as fuck. He couldn't wait anymore. He knew he would be called quite soon, his surname starting with 'B', but it seemed like forever until Mcgonagall called out 'Black, Sirius'. He took his test results and gulped before looking at it.
Gryffindor.
Sirius was a nervous wreck. Would his parents hate him for being a Gryffindor? Most likely.

He started shaking as he made his way towards the Gryffindor table. He watched as many people stared at him. The Black family was.. famous within Hogwarts. They were also very well known for being in Slytherin. Sirius sat at the Gryffindor table and watched everyone get their tests. His whole day was nearly ruined.
That is until he saw James and Remus walking towards the Gryffindor table. They were both Gryffindor. Thank god. Sirius couldn't have been happier, his two best friends were in the same house as him. They could spend the rest of their school days being friends.

Everyone soon got their tests back and were at their respective tables.
Sirius watched as an uncountable number of staff came in and stared putting food on the tables, all at the same time. It was quite overwhelming, all these people in the same place. The tables were soon full of food, Sirius had never seen so much in the same place. It was almost magical. Everyone else started putting food on their plates (which were already placed in front of them) and Sirius did the same. Him, James and Remus talked the whole time while simultaneously stuffing their face with as much food as they possibly could.

The feast soon ended and the three boys followed their Prefects to their dormitories. It was in a tall tower and the way to get in was through a portrait. You had to enter a passcode and the portrait would open. It opened to a circular room with a fireplace at the end, surrounded by multiple chairs and tables. There were two separate hallways, both leading to staircases. One of the staircases lead to the boy's dormitories while the other lead to the girl's. The three boys yawned and went up to their dormitory. Inside, they found a short, plump boy who introduced himself as Peter Pettigrew.
The group talked for a while before they all decided to go to bed.

'What a year this will be,' was Sirius' last thought before he drifted off into a peaceful sleep, smiling to himself.
