The noise outside was loud, like some many people talking at the same time, she woke up and looked around, there were only about four mermaids inside with the little ones. She didn't see Carmen, but the noise outside was loud, she swam towards it and was surprised to see so many Merfolks, the new ones had a different colour of tail, like hers, they looked more like her than Carmen's tribe. "You cannot take her" Carmen was the one talking now. "We are her family, she belongs with us.. Give her to us" "No" "We out number your tribe..." "Wait!!!" Ruth swam forward, the other tribe gasp at her, she looked exactly like her mother. "There will be no fighting..." "Is it really you?" Didi swam to her and touch her cheeks, this mermaid had her mother's eyes, she looked at the rest, they all had almost the same shade of tail. "Who are you?" "I'm your mother's sister" "My mother?... How?" "This was her tribe, she was the leader of this tribe.. Before she died, I looked for you, all this years, I couldn't find you, I thought we lost you forever" Ruth was overwhelmed, this were her people, her mother's tribe. She touch her Aunty's Cheek and they bumped forehead. Since she's been here, she has learnt a few things about aquatic creatures, like how they protected their young ones and how family bond mattered to them. "So we came here to take you to our territory, your mother's territory" One of the mermen said eyeing Carmen and her people. Ruth swam to Carmen. "Its okay" "I promised to protect you.. Never leave your side.. I promised Cleo to stand with you.. I'm not letting you go alone" "Well you don't have a choice" Didi said pointing her long shell like spear at Carmen "No.." Ruth lowered her spear "Carmen is my friend, she kept me safe and because of her I'm not dead" "Her people betrayed your mother" "I know, and they are making up for it, you can't punish a whole tribe for one person's mistake, and remember your sister Zifa did the exact same thing, no one excluded you from the society, no one pointed fingers" Didi sigh and looked at Ruth with kindness "I'm afraid you are right" "What Zifa did haunts us everyday, we are ashamed, well... What do you suggest" "I will go with you but Carmen comes with me if she wants to" "I do" "No, no one from this tribe is allowed in our territory" One of the males said "Well it's either that or I stay with them, its pretty comfortable here anyway" Didi and one other mermaids sighed at the same time, the mermaid swam to Ruth. "Alright, we accept, but she must respect the people of our tribe" "I will" Carmen assured them. "Who are you?" "I'm Cora, the leader of your mother's tribe.. I try to follow in her great footsteps." Cora said and touched her cheek, Ruth smiled, touching each other's cheek was a way of showing that they were friends and a way of exchanging greetings. "We must leave" Carmen spoke to some of her people, they tried to convince her to stay, but she reassured them and followed Cora.
