Third Person

Her room was like a wonderland for comic driven recluses. The walls were a deep red that pulsed in the light, sprinkled with various posters, mostly of strange Japanese cartoon shows.

I doubted she could read whatever was written on the poster.

Her comforter was pulled over her bed, even though she hadn't cleaned it. The result was lumps of varying sizes and shapes and the comforter was weighed down by her laptop.

A desk sat in one corner, littered with wadded up pieces of paper and pens. A few shelves were pushed against the walls and filled with books. Some books sat on the floor in front of the shelves.

Lennox laid on her bed, reading one of them. Her favorite, How To Get Away With Murder. She found the book to be fascinating and useful at the same time.

Her father gave her the copy when she was only eleven years old and five years later at the age of sixteen, she finds herself reading more often.

Her father, Lucious Bane, was giving her people left to right. She needed to kill them faster and with less blood.

Her door swung open and revealed her old sister, Luna, texting on her phone, " Oh, my fucking god! Mom and dad are going fucking crazy! "

Luna exaggerated, loudly. Lennox grimaced a little as Luna swatted Lennox's thigh so she could move over, " Move. Mom AND Dad decided that we should be going to school ,because the police are getting suspicious. "

" What! School? Really? That's cool! " Lennox says, her smile growing wide, while Luna scowls, throwing her pitch black hair into Lennox's face.

Lennox wiped her lips and glared at Luna, " Yuck! That is what school is. Do these nails look like they are going to be smacking a fucking volleyball in gym? NO! I don't want my baby hairs to be ruined when I break a sweat. "

Luna exaggerated, huffing. Lennox rolled her eyes, if there is one thing Luna is good at it is being a complete Drama Queen.

" Maybe, you should sign up for drama. You know, since you're a drama queen. " Lennox said, giggling at Luna's expression.

Luna scowled and waved her hand toward herself, " Come. Mom wants us, thinks she can fool me. As if. " Luna whispered the last part.

Lennox and Luna walked down their mahogany staircase and into the dining room. It was a grand space, to say the least.

The huge mahogany table took up most of the vast space the dark, romantic room offered, left without a tablecloth and daring guests to ruin the perfectly varnished shine with their unworthy fingerprints.

Two tall, silver candelabras commanded attention from the center of the table, holding smooth white candles whose wax never dripped onto the table.

Sitting down at the burnt sienna chair was her mother and father. Lennox admired her mother, but wanted to be like her father.

Even at forty Lennox's mother still looked young. Five foot seven, willowy and a face cut right from the pages of a men's magazine.

Lennox, on the other hand, had stopped growing at five foot two inches, and had gained thirty pounds since her fifteenth birthday, mostly around the hips and thighs. Lennox had her father's hair, blonde.

Yes, blonde. Though Lennox hated the color, it made her feel closer to her father. They had the same grey eyes, like the clouds, were calm and emotionless.

Long, wavy blonde hair, so smooth and silky, almost as if it was tailored from gold fabric. SHe didn't inherit his height, her father was six foot three and around the weight of 358 pounds.

Luna inherited her mother's looks and her height, Her hair was straight black, eyes dark, and a perfect hourglass figure.

The girls sat at the table, their eyes occasionally flickering to their father, who was texting silently on his phone.

The mother was giving a fake smile, her dark eyes constantly flickering to her absent husband. She sighed and clicked her tongue.

" What your father is trying to say. " She spoke, glaring at her husband with a hard tone, " Is that it's important for you girls to get your education, considering all the murders going around. " Her mother swallowed and looked at Lennox, who gave a small smile.

" We need to have alibi. You girls will be in extracurriculars. Lennox, you will be in baseball. "

Lennox blinked twice, " Baseball, really? " Lennox scrunched up her face, looking at her father, who ignored and was still texting on the phone.

" But, mom - "

" Do as your mother says. " Her father's deep voice spoke, his grey eyes not even looking up. Lennox bit her lip and hid behind her long hair.

" Luna, you will be in drama. " As her mother spoke those words, Luna squealed loudly, jumping up and down at her seat.

" Alright, now that we have that covered. Helga, bring out the food, dear. " Her mother yelled, placing a towel in her lap.

The girls did the same, while her mother glared at her father, " Lucious, dear, maybe you should eat and put your phone down. Talk to the girls. "

Her mother whispered, her eyes looking hopefully, " I'm busy. " Her father spoke, not even daring to look up. Her mother persisted, further.

" But the girls - "

" Eat your food, Charlotte, and hush. We will discuss your behavior later. " Her father spoke, putting his iPhone X into his breast pocket. The mother whimpered slightly, her eyes shiny with tears, but she blinked them.

If they had fallen, she would have been punished severely. Lennox played with her black nails, placing them on her lap, refusing to make eye contact with her mother.

It was pathetic, she pushed him to his limit and now she had to pay for it. It was not the father's fault for having a short temper, but the woman who didn't know her place and kept her mouth shut.

Those were the rules: The women of the house had to follow the dinner rules and her mother broke them.

Elbows off the table, sit up straight, chew with your mouth shut, take small bites, don't talk with your mouth full, don't talk at all, finish your plates, use your napkin, ask permission to leave the table, and help clear the table.

Helga brought out a grey tray with four bowls and golden brown bread.

Mushroom soup, bitter greens with tomatoes the size of peas, rare roast beef slices as thin as paper, noodles in a green sauce, cheese that melts on your tongue served with sweet blue grapes.

They used a spoon to take small sips from the warm soup, it made Lennox feel better and her goosebumps had risen.

" So, you killed their whole family? " Lucious asked, piercing Lennox's soul with those haunting grey eyes.

" Y-yes, sir. I - They witness a murder. " Lennox spoke, looking away and then looking at him, " Good. But, what about the baby? "

" I couldn't, father, she was too young, she won't remember anything. Its - its impossible. " Lennox spoke, her face feeling hot and tears shining in her eyes.

" I thought you would be man enough to kill the child, just snap its neck or toss it out the window, but no. You wanted to be some abstract artist and make a fucking pose with the child. Next time, your sister will accompany you and she will kill the witness. When she does that, you need to watch and take notes. You guys will be going to Bury the Hatchet Club tonight, anyways. Funny, how you look just like me, but can't act like me. "

Her father spoke, sipping wine. Her mother looked away, nodding her head slightly. Lennox looked sideways at her sister, who refused to look at her, but stared at the wall.

Lennox ate her food in silence, waiting for dinner to be over.
