Ishikawa, huh? All Might couldn't help but split his attention between the green-haired boy he worked so hard to train for the past few months, and the girl the said boy had practically raved about for all of that time. Midoriya had shown such a range of emotion concerning the girl. It was like a roller coaster of excitement over the fact that she was training as well as sadness that he couldn't share the news of his new quirk with her.
The young boy had said that she was one of his only friends growing up, and were it not for the pity that overwhelmed him, All Might would have smiled in reminiscence for his own friends who would stand beside him, even when he had been odd and quirkless.
But Ishikawa looked to be holding up well on her own. In the four minutes that had passed for the exam, she had successfully gained 23 regular points and a special 33 rescue points for a few incidents, including one time when she helped a classmate who had a purely defensive quirk and was overwhelmed with too many robots. Every time she took down a robot, she would tighten her ponytail, brush off the purple jacket she wore, and rush back into action.
The expression the girl had was unmistakable. She was refusing to bend to the whims of others. Though she wasn't in the top bracket for the most points in her collective group of examinees, she didn't stop rushing to and fro with her starry shields smashing through villains. It reminded him of a pro hero that he used to work with, back in his day...
Young Midoriya, on the other hand, had no points, and was looking a little desperate. He had run late into the battlefield and had to pay for it.
Come on, Midoriya! All Might mentally cheered for his pupil. I've seen your fight! You can do this!
He turned back to Ishikawa, finding that she had secured a little more rescue points for helping up a fellow examinee when they got ahead of themselves and tripped. All Might couldn't help but feel that Ishikawa was the type to do things that she necessarily didn't have to. It wasn't that she broke the rules, but rather extended herself beyond what was asked of her.
Even though he could see her spirit, he couldn't help her when she began to fall behind. It looked like her quirk could only take so much. While some students cut down robot after robot without care, Ishikawa's quirk began to wane. The shields weren't as strong or as large enough now.
"Poor girl," one of the teachers beside All Might - a third-year teacher - ticked her tongue in almost disappointment. "She didn't train hard enough."
A close up on the girl's face showed fat drops of sweat dripping down her face. She was panting, trying to suck in air as she punched and kicked, but it just didn't look like enough.
