Part 10: Te amo

"Look at her. Awww she's so scared." Two of James friends look down at me after I was pushed down in the halls.
"You're one to talk Ben. If heard that you've had trouble making downstairs rise lately. Now are you gay or do you have an STD because if it's the first one then I think you're even more scared than you're buddies thinking that you are checking them out." I get up and shove him back. Everyone in the halls jaws drop and they start to laugh.
"I ain't a fag!" Ben yells back at me. Trying to size me up.
"You're hairdo suggests otherwise. Now go reapply your mascara before you cry it off." I flip him off and walk confidently down the hallway. People are staring so I just keep my eyes where I supposed to be going.

"Damn!" Charlie says at lunch, "you really told him off!" I smile and continue to eat my apple.
"I don't know... what if he tries to hurt you again because of what you said." Don says while playing with the sleeve of her hoodie. She doesn't usually talk at lunch so Charli looks over at her confused. Jess meanwhile is gawking at some new Irish kid who just transferred here. He's sitting over with the football players and she's obviously not paying attention to anything but him.
"I'll be fine." I turn to her and smile. She looks up at me for a second then keeps working on her sleeve.
"Stop doing that to your sleeves you're going to ruin all your hoodies." I say taking her hand. She just looks at her tray and pumps her leg up and down.
"You're real shy aren't ya." Charli says to Don. Don just keeps pumping her leg up and down.
"Rachel is over with the cheerleaders and I don't care you're gay. You don't have to be nervous." Charli continues to try and talk to Don. Don looks up at her.
"I know." She says quietly.
"Hey Jess what do you think about what Sam did today?" Charli turns to Jess changing the topic.
"A-huh yeah that's great." She says. Charli slams her tray down making a big slam. Jess nearly falls out of her chair and I hear Don chuckle.
"What!" She turns with her face red.
"You've got eyes for leprechaun." Charli makes fun of her.
"His name's Keegan and just because he's Irish doesn't mean he has anything to do with leprechauns." Jess says.
"While I'm sure you're looking for his pot of gold right?" Charli suggests. I scoff and Don laughs. Seeing how she has Dons attention now only edges her on.
"Charli!" Jess says.
"Am I right? You want to ride his rainbow for the pot of gold at the end? Maybe taste his lucky charms." Charli says. Don starts laughing even more.
"Omg Charli that's so dirty! Stop!" Jess says covering her face.
"Relax, I'm sure he wants to find your four leaf clover as well." I start laughing along with Don and Jess is as red as a tomato.
"I hate you." Jess says into her hands.
"I'm here all week." Charli replies. Don is stiles smiling from the jokes and I feel happy that she is getting more comfortable.

While we are joking around some guys walks over to the table.
"So you two are lesbians right?" He says leaning against the table facing me and Don.
"Excuse-" I start.
"Well if you two ever need a third count me in. It's totally hot and I could even turn you straight." He says.
"Weren't you the guy who shat his pants while going down on Rebecca?" I ask him.
"How- how did you-"
"Everyone knows sweetie. Now our bed is perfectly warm without your shit in it." The guys stands there for a second before storming off and Jess and Charli burst into laughter.
"Sam he's probably really mad. What if he comes back to-" Don starts.
"Don I'll be fine." I kiss her on the cheek and hold her hand.
"You guys are pretty cute together." Charli says while  twisting her fork in her spaghetti.
"I know! That's what I've been saying all day! I wish I had a relationship like them!" Jess chimes in.
"You mean with Lucky Charms." Charli adds. Jess rolls her eyes and Don is embarrassed about the attention that was drawn to her.

Me and Jess talk about how horrible the history teachers outfit is today when Keegan walks in.
"Sorry I'm late miss, just couldn't find the room." He says in a thick Irish accent.
"It's alright Keegan. Just take a seat." She tells him. He looks over at our table and smiles starting to walk over. Jess hits my arm repeatedly under the table.
"I know!" I whisper at her while trying to keep my focus on the board.
"Mornin' ladies. Is this seat taken already?" He asks pointing to the seat next to Jess.
"N-no sit down." Jess says. Keegan smiles and sits down. Gotta give it to him, he's pretty hot, but not my type. He's tall with strawberry hair, of course, and he has his football leather-men's jacket on.
"I'm Keegan." He says to Jess.
"Hello, I'm Jess. So what's Ireland like?" She asks. I'm happy for Jess, by the end of class they seemed to have really hit it off.

"I'm just saying, transformers car insurance is there life insurance." Don says as we watch the movie. I laugh at her. "What? I'm right." She defends herself. I just get up from her lap and go I go into the kitchen to get some water.
"What!?!" She yells after me.

As I fill my cup up I turn around and see Dons dad.
"Hello Samantha." He says.
"Hey Dons dad." I say nervously.
"Call me Maximus." He says.
"Alright sir." I agree.
"You are very close with my daughter, no?" He asks.
"Umm yeah," I say. He looks me up and down in a
Judgy manner.
"Patri quid agis." I hear Don from the entrance of the kitchen.
"Just saying hi to your friend." Maximus answers.
"Placet ire." She tells him.
"Okay dear, have fun." He says with a twisted smile as he walks away.
"Sorry my dad has never been very good with social situations." She says walking over to me.
"What did you say to him?" I asked her.
"I asked him what he was doing then told him to please leave." She explains.
"Why is he... ya know, like that?" I ask her.
"Well he always been a little strange but when my mother disappeared he just kinda lost it." She says.
"Disappeared?" I say.
"I don't know, when I was around the age of ten my mom just kind of left. Never came back." Don explains.
"I'm so sorry Don. That must have been hard." I take her hands.
"It's fine, at first it made me feel crappy but I can't change the past." She says. I feel really bad for Don. She just walks back to the movie room and I follow behind her.

I open google translate as Don eats her popcorn. I wonder how to say 'I love you' in Latin. I test it out. It pops up as one word which is confusing but whatever. I turn to Don who is still shoving popcorn in her face.
"Amas." I say. Don looks at me weird.
"What?" She says with a laugh.
"What? Did I do it wrong?" I ask her. Don smiles.
"I don't know what you were trying to say but you said 'you love'." She explains.
"Oh..." I say.
"What were you trying to say?" She asks. I look up at her.
"How do you say... I love you." I ask. Don is taken back but then she smirks. She turns my chin so we are face to face and brushes my hair behind my ears.
"Te amo." She says. I feel butterflies in my stomach and my mouth hangs slightly open. I can feel the blush creeping across my face. "Te amo magis quam erat. Tu omnia bona in vita mea." She kisses my forehead than turns back to the screen. I sit uncomfortably on the couch and try to focus on the movie. I swear Don will be the death of me.

Don is driving me home from her house late at night. We are almost at my house and I wish I could be the one to stop time so I wouldn't have to leave her. I just stare Put the window until I see my familiar drive way. Don gets out and opens my door for me. I step out and take her hand as she walks me to the door.
"Don?" I ask.
"What's up?" She replies.
"What did all of that stuff you said mean? I mean I know about the live part but it seemed like more than that." I ask her. She smiles.
"I said I love you more than anything. and you are everything good in my life." She answers. I look into her eyes.
"I wish we could stay like this forever." I say with a sigh still wondering her eyes.
"We can." Don says taking my hand. The birds chirping stops and the flickering porch light stays on. Everything just so perfect. I lean in and kiss Don softly. She kisses back and her hand moves from my hands to my hips as she pulls me into her. I put my arms around her neck when the light flickers again. I pull away surprised and Don looks embarrassed.
"Sorry it's just hard to focus." She says. I just smile and kiss her cheek.
"I'll see you tomorrow Don." I say walking inside.
