Skye
As I woke and stretched Lukas walked over to the enclosure."Good morning, Lukas," I rumbled to him.
"Morning to you too, Skye," He replied, obviously still not completely used to my voice inside of his head. I stood, stretching my legs which seemingly grew over night.
I walked outside and stretched my wings, watching the membrane in between the muscly bones shimmer in the morning light as the small scales caught the sun. Lukas approached me and scratched the scales near my breastplate, causing my tongue to loll out and my tail to swish happily. He chuckled and hooked the lead to my neck and horns, running his hand across it as he connected his rope.
It wasn't long before we were in town, waiting on the saddle maker behind a line of humans with horses, all of which were eyeing Lukas and I, giving off strong fear scents. I rumbled a bit, happily at the idea of finally getting to show Lukas how it feels to fly, however a few of the horses jumped and neighed nervously.
"She's just excited," Lukas said with a smile as he patted my muzzle, earning a nuzzle from myself. A small, fragile looking youngling human peeked out from behind an elder, clinging to her dress. The youngling walked out from behind her safe haven and up to me. I lowered my head, causing the child to back up a bit, but after a bit of self conflict she held her hand out to touch my snout. I closed the gap and touched the child's soft hand with my scaly nose, letting out a friendly puff of smoke. She giggled and pet my muzzle, stroking the scales with her small hands. Lukas smiled warmly at the child, however whipped around when loud footsteps were heard.
A male dragon approached, his muscular, red scale covered legs shimmering. He studied me up and down, giving off a snort of distaste, causing me to growl a bit in response. The child started to shy away, but I gave her a sympathetic look. She climbed onto my snout, using one of my nostrils as a step, causing me to sneeze. I turned back to the red dragon, studying the male atop it. He was looking both Lukas and I up and down, distaste and a feeling of superiority being clearly given off.
"Surprise seeing you here, Lukas. What a nice looking dragon for someone who looks so common," He said, sounding around the same age as Lukas.
Lukas simply replied with, "Surprise seeing you here too, Jac. I didn't know they have dragons out to the first snob whose dad gives them a gold bar."
I gave a satisfied rumble in agreement. The red dragon before me snorted smoke towards me rudely in response, a hateful glare in his dark blue eyes. I rolled mine and looked at the startled child on my muzzle, soot in her face. I placed her on the ground and nuzzled her, cleaning the black powder from her delicate face. She giggled and hugged my snout before running back to her mother, telling her about what had happened. The elder lifted her onto her shoulders and continued waiting in line as the youngling chattered to her, a smile on her small face.
I once again turned to the large dragon and his rider, glaring at them. I shot a small ball of fire at the Jac character and singed his already short hair, turning the ends from brown to black. He yelped and the dragon he was sitting on took off. Everyone in line erupted in laughter at the surely embarrassed youngling. I let out a satisfied puff of smoke and grinned.
It wasn't long after before the saddle maker got to us. He brought me back inside and strapped the saddle onto my back, looping the polished leather around my forelegs and tail, pushing my spikes into the small holes in the saddle. I flexed my legs and neck and swished my tail, making sure nothing was too restricting.
Lukas climbed on, lashing a length of leather that was attached to the saddle around his hand. I grinned evilly at him and swooshed out of the building just after the bars of gold fell from Lukas's hand and into the saddle maker's.
I lifted off, my wings beating with my heart as I soared into the air. I hovered just above town and Lukas let out a yelp of excitement, fastening the leg straps. I cut a few loops and flew full speed to the mountains, landing at the all too familiar cliff side cave of my childhood. A loud growl was heard from the back of the cave and a flash of silver was seen before a gust of wind swooshed out of the cave. Strange...
"Diamond? Firetalon? Mom? Dad?" I called out. No reply. I walked to the back of the cave.
"M-Mom..? D-Dad..?" I called out once more to be again met with silence. I studied the pile of ashes where they slept before realizing that my foreleg was wet. I lifted it up and studied it. Blood. My eyes widened and Lukas slid down off of my back.
"Is something wrong, Skye?" He asked gently before studying his shoes just as I did my feet. He gasped and I walked forward, being met with two large lumps. A lump of my own formed in my throat as I studied the messy pile of carnage, random teeth, claws, and bones sticking out of the pile of meat. I scented it.
"No..." I mumbled. I ran out of the cave, the scent beginning to be too much. Lukas ran out behind me, his shirt covering his nose. I collapsed at the mouth of the cave, tears now flowing from my eyes. Who did this..? I caught a scent on the edge of the rocks, an unfamiliar dragon's scent. Lukas climbed onto my back, looking at me sympathetically.
"Let's go home, Skye..." He said. I nodded slowly, tears still falling.
On the way back I made up my mind, I was going after that dragon, first thing in the morning.
