-Chapter One:

It all started because of a date. A stupid blasted date that had, in every sense of the phrase, changed life as I knew it. For better or for worse, I'm not so sure. For the last seventeen years of my life, I had never once been on a proper date. And no, if you're wondering, it's not because I'm hideously ugly or something. I look as normal as any other average teen, if not a little too skinny. Though, It might have to do with the fact that I have always been unofficially labeled as the "town freak" and have been for about half of my life. Everywhere I go, something strange is just bound to happen. Whenever my emotions rise, my "powers" get the better of me. And it almost always creates different effects, ranging from setting someone's hair on fire, to suddenly, unconsciously shattering glass. One time I had gotten ridiculously mad and exploded a can of soda all over a jerk's face. The jerk is the star quarterback. Incident after incident. I had, of course, come to terms with the fact that I wasn't exactly what one would consider an average normal teenage girl to be. And because of that, I had to always try my best to keep a lock on my emotions, so no more freak accidents should ever happen again. I did this both for me and for my parents. It has always been hard on them. Although they don't say it and don't really show it, I know. I know it's hard for them to have a child like me. So I have always searched for some semblance of being a normal teen.

This date, my first one, was supposed to be my golden opportunity to finally be ordinary. My date was with Pierre, a foreign exchange student. He was cute and had an accent to die for. More importantly, he was my chance for normalcy. On a stroke of luck one day, I was assigned to give the student a tour of the school. It started out great; here I was with this cute guy who knew nothing about me. It was my chance to be a new me. It got even better when he asked me out on a date the next day. Fate, being the cruel mistress she is, just had to ruin it. It turns out that he was a slimeball; a stupid, two-faced jerk.

Go figure. Why is it always the cute ones? The date had started out relatively well, too. I was so giddy and excited getting ready for the date, trying my best to look as pretty as possible for my first date. Pierre had shown up looking adorable as ever, his usual disheveled brown hair styled up a bit. He even had dimples!

"Hello, Eleanor. You're looking extraordinarily pretty tonight."

"Oh, you think so? Thank you." My face colored bright red at the compliment. Apparently, my efforts were not in vain. I was glad, because I had straightened my usually wavy hair and even dabbed on some very light makeup, and that was a lot more than I usually did. "Come on, let's get going. I can't wait for you to see what I have in store for you." There was slight of accent in his voice that I should have been wary of. Instead, I beamed and nodded eagerly, hooking my arm through his.

The date had been close to perfect on the drive to the restaurant. Things pretty much went downhill from there. We sat and ordered, making small talk and joking lightly. I got up to use the restroom. On my way back, I saw a sight I never wanted to see. Pierre was talking to a guy standing beside him. That alone doesn't warrant the anger. But it was not just any guy, it was the Kevin Nichols, star quarterback and scumbag extraordinaire. From the soda incident? You ask. Yes, this quarterback is one and the same. Golden wavy locks styled to near perfection covered his head in lush locks, and paired with sparkling blue eyes and strong cheekbones, he's got girls groveling. It's sickening really. Pierre and Nichols seemed to be laughing about something, which was a bit suspicious to me. Why would cute, sweet Pierre be laughing with a crude, rude, dick head of a guy like Kevin Nichols? I managed to get close enough to still overhear them but not be seen. It was Kevin who spoke first.
