Chapter Three:
Sunday couldn't have come any faster, and I'm already dreading every second of it.
After everything that had happened, I just didn't have the energy or the inclination to do much. On a day that could very much be my last, at home that is.
So my Saturday pretty much flew by, boring and dull kind of like those old silent films. The day as filled with me bidding my goodbyes to the very few friends I manage to keep and some last minute packing.
And now its Sunday, I'm up at 6 'o'clock in the morning. On a Sunday, heading off to the airport to fly to God-knows-where. Did I mention its a Sunday? All I vaguely remember- though the sleep-induce haze- were lugging my bags outside to the car before unceremoniously falling asleep in the back seat.
Dad hands me my passport and ticket"Once you reach your destination, Uncle Luther will be there to pick you up, so don't worry," Dad insures me. "Oh and Lexie, honey? Stay safe for us okay."
I let out a small smile, " Its fine, dad I'm going to be fine, I promise." Only, I was sure that I'm lying to him and myself. This is anything but fine.
Dad was quick to pull me into a hug, making me feel like a little five years old all over again, yearning for daddy's love. It just makes it all the much harder to leave. He pulled away and this time Mom was quick to envelop me in a hug. She smells like her regular perfume and a scent so unique that I had always defined it to be hers, specifically.
"Take care okay, Alexia. And be sure to call us regularly, we'll miss you. I'll personally make sure your home on any breaks."
I had no doubt that she would.
"Yeah, I will mom, I will," I tightened the hug in the promise of my word. We reluctantly pulled away when the intercom announce that my plane was ready to take flight.
"Its time for me to go now," I reach up to give them a quick kiss on the cheek. "I love you."
I'm about halfway there before turning back to find them still standing there amidst the crowds; still looking after me. And with one last look, I finally board the plane.
Although, if I knew what my being at the Academy would bring to me, then maybe, just maybe I would have never boarded the plane to jump right back into the safety and comfort of their arms.
---------------------------------------------------
To sum up, my flight there would have to be: boring, uneventful, and in more ways than one, painful. It was the longest one-way trip I had ever taken, is a grand total of nine hours and something billionth minutes. Dad said the damn Academy was somewhere in the British Isles, a place so far away from my small hometown here in Arizona.
The trips already start off a bad turn when I find out my neighbors, for the next nine and something hours is a balding, borderline overweight middle age man with a severe case of B.O. I'm usually not one for sarcasm, but wow really lovely.
Aside for the minor setback of horrible seating arrangements, the rest of the trip was pretty boring. I spent most of my time either looking out of the window, listening to music, or both. That was pretty much all I could do.
The food couldn't have come any faster and soon enough it was nighttime. I had my earphones in, an effort to drown out my neighbor's excruciatingly painful snores. Man, was he charming or what.
It took a while until finally, sleep overcame me.
---------------------------------------------------
I, in all honesty, think I'm going to hate crowds a lot more from now on. I mean I was never really a fan of it before but this is seriously pushing it.
